Designers, developers, and manufacturers of custom torque converters, transmissions, and components. Hughes Performance was founded in 1971.
Founder Bill Hughes, Sr. began the humble beginnings of this company in a small shop that rebuilt OEM torque converters. Bill's son Jim Hughes took interest in the design and engineering of torque converters for racing purposes. Jim's involvement in the company took Hughes Performance to the next level, and resulted in a dynamic change within the company that quickly elevated Hughes Performance to the upper echelon of high performance and racing torque converter manufacturing. The time came for Hughes to jump into the transmission side of the industry. Enter Bill's son Jeff Hughes. With Jeff's in-depth understanding of automatic transmission function as well as his machining abilities Hughes Performance enjoyed immediate success in the high performance and racing transmission market. Today Hughes Performance employs over 40 people and continues to proudly manufacture the finest torque converters and transmissions currently available in the aftermarket.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our friend and longtime Hughes Performance family member, Matt Thomas, this past Sunday.
Matt was more than a dedicated employee. He was a hardworking, dependable teammate and a friend to so many of us. His presence will be deeply missed both inside our shop and beyond.

We are proud to celebrate one of the most respected names in sportsman history and one of the most valued people in the Hughes family.
Since joining Hughes Performance in 1993, Kevin has spent more than three decades doing what Hughes has always believed in: bringing real racing experience, real technical knowledge, and real customer support together to help racers perform at their best.
Kevin’s résumé speaks for itself — a 2003 Super Comp Division Champion, 2008 Top Dragster Division Champion, eight national event wins, four different classes in the same car, double-digit Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Wallys, and memorable victories in Super Gas, Super Comp, Super Street, and Top Sportsman. From the winner’s circle to the tech counter, Kevin has represented Hughes with the same focus, competitiveness, and commitment that made him successful on the track.
But the trophies only tell part of the story. Kevin’s knowledge, loyalty, work ethic, and willingness to help racers find the right combination have made a lasting impact on customers, coworkers, and the sportsman racing community.
Kevin, thank you for 33 years of dedication to Hughes Performance, for representing this company with class, and for proving year after year that Hughes Performance is built by racers, for racers.
