The subconscious can seep into your writing in fascinating ways, adding depth and unexpected turns. Writing a story is a portal into one's own psyche, taking the author on a journey that often brings the unconscious to consciousness. We develop and change as people just as much as our manuscripts develop and change. Often, this process of transformation is parallel with the writer and the book shifting and changing side by side.

When I completed my degree in psychology, I began to think about the process of writing and what it means to be a writer in entirely new ways. I bring this viewpoint into my coaching and editing, helping authors to tell their stories with clarify and authenticity as they discover what their manuscript can teach them about the human experience.

The King of Wands:
In the psychotherapy practice called Internal Family Systems, therapists talk about the sometimes elusive core Self. While a person had numerous Parts that shift and may be created, the Self is always present ... even if they've been buried for some time beneath other Parts.
The King of Wands asks us questions about our core Self and how it interacts with the shifting Parts. He asks us about our authentic voice and our deepest truth. As IFS teaches us, the Self cannot be taken away. It can always be discovered again. Looking at the symbology of the King of Wands, we see hot colors and Lion imagery representing this inner flame that is never extinguished.
What's really interesting about the King of Wands, however, is that we also find the symbol of the Ouroboros, the snake consuming itself. This ancient alchemical symbol represents a life-death-rebirth cycle, a process of eternal evolution and transformation. While the Self remains, we continue to shift and grow ... integrating and learning the wisdom of our different Parts.
One of my favorite aspects of this card is the little lizard standing on the King's dias, like a sentinel. In some traditions, lizards are a reminder to embrace change and the process of regrowth after difficulty. In the King of Wands, this lizard seems to come with a gift of gentle encouragement as we embark on the journey of the Self and the Parts.

A testimonial from Jacque Salomon, founder of Seeds To Inspire Foundation.

For the past year, Jacque and I have worked together to bring her beautiful memoir to life and share her powerful story of hope and healing. Writing a memoir is an in-depth, collaborative, and intimate process full of shared laughter and tears. Every week, Jacque and I met on Zoom or in-person where she told me her story and I wrote it into draft form. It has been a great honor and joy to get to know and spend time with her and her family.

Writing a memoir is an incredibly transformative inflection point for the person whose life is being put into story. It's also transformative on my end as a writer. I learned so much from Jacque during this process and changed as a person ... she even convinced me to go vegan! What a journey it's been, and we're not done yet...

We are proud to announce that the first draft of the manuscript is complete! Follow along on both of our pages to stay updated on the process and learn more about Jacque's story.

Eclipse seasons are known for being periods of intense energy, marked by potential for change and revelation. We already made it through one eclipse and are gearing up for another on April 8. To help you through the eclipse season, we're offering specials on guided introspection.

Why can guided introspection help during eclipse season?

Heightened Intuition: Eclipses are believed to heighten our intuition. A tarot reading can tap into this increased sensitivity, providing deeper insights into your thoughts and feelings.

Illuminating Challenges: Eclipses often bring hidden issues to light. The cards can expose areas in your life that need attention, prompting you to address them and fostering personal growth.

Navigating Change: Eclipses can be catalysts for change. A tarot reading can help you understand the potential shifts coming your way and offer guidance on how to navigate them effectively.

Confirmation and Clarity: During this intense period, you might have mixed feelings or uncertainties. A tarot reading can offer a sense of confirmation for your hunches or provide clarity on confusing situations.

Empowerment: Eclipse seasons can stir up emotions. A tarot session can be empowering, helping you understand your inner strength and take charge of your path forward.

Taking the first step with writing and chasing your author dreams is crucial:

Transformation from Idea to Reality: That story simmering in your mind? It can't touch readers or leave its mark on the world until it exists as written words. Taking that first step turns that formless idea into a tangible creation, a stepping stone on the path to a finished manuscript.

Progress Over Perfection: The fear of imperfection can be a powerful deterrent. But remember, most first drafts aren't masterpieces. That's okay! The important thing is to get those initial ideas flowing. You can edit, revise, and polish later. Taking that first step gets you past the fear and into the territory of progress.

Building Momentum: Writing is a journey, and like any journey, it takes that initial step to begin. Once you start, the act of writing itself can become its own motivator. The more you write, the more comfortable you become, and the easier it is to keep going. Taking that first step builds the momentum you need to keep chasing your author goals.

Uncovering Your Voice: The more you write, the more you discover your unique voice as an author. That first step is the gateway to exploring your writing style, your characters, and the worlds you want to create. It's through consistent writing that you'll find what makes your stories sing.

The Power of Possibility: You never know where that first step might lead. Maybe it's a traditionally published novel, self-publishing success, or finding a passionate online audience. The point is, by taking that first step, you open yourself up to a world of possibilities you can't even imagine yet.

So, if you have a story to tell, don't wait for the perfect moment or the right words. At Raven Writing Group, we have the support you need to take that first step, embrace the journey, and chase your dreams as an author!

A card for this Thursday evening: 7 of Pentacles

When hard work doesn't seem to pay off, we meet the 7 of Pentacles. This card is about delayed gratitification, the challenges of patience, and subsquent confusion and doubt. It also asks us to hold on just a little longer for the harvest and know that sometimes good things do take time.

Healing takes time, too. In the words of the singer/songwriter Trevor Hall, "You can't rush your healing. Darkness has its teaching." Allow the process to be.
