Fun Fact on Polyurethane Foam
Polyurethane was discovered in 1937 by Otter Bayer, chemist at IG Farben in Germany as a result of a chemical reaction between polyester diol and diisocyante. This formula in early work focused on producing fibers and flexible foam, and during World War II, polyurethanes were used on a limited scale as aircraft coating.
First commercial production of flexible polyurethane foam began in Europe in 1954, and soon after in the United States.
Polyurethane Foam’s success has been unstoppable, today it’s used in many products and applications.
Roofing- polyurethane foam is seamless, self-flashing, and can be used over many existing substrates. Polyurethane foam can also be applied over irregular surfaces with ease. This provides insulation adding to R Value.
Imagine having your home to stay cooler in hotter months and warm in the colder months based on the amount of polyurethane foam applied onto the roof deck to raise the R Value.
Many will ask what is R Value well that is simply a way to measure how much resistance the insulation has to heat flow. The higher the R Value, the more the resistance to heat (better insulation).
I have to say I did a lot of Googling/research for the origins of polyurethane foam and had some fun, I did not know that it was used in World Word II in airplanes... very interesting fact.
