The entire point of diversity is not solely to include different looking folk. Diversity represents an opportunity to expand ideas. Isn’t this supposed to be representative of college campuses??
Protests by their very nature are disruptive in terms of challenging the status quo or conventional thinking. There's also a place for exchanging ideas in an informed way and engaging in activity that puts in place foundational work for change.
This has everything to do with our work as therapists in understanding the various cultures of our clients and the role of empowerment and self-advocacy in well-being. Learning how we co-exist with others and relate to difference is a part of care and shaping the Self.

I'm inviting mental health workers, body workers, somatic healers, psychologists, psychiatrists to engage in amplifying community health care agencies who actively promote and engage in anti-oppression work through the power of our referrals.
Challenge:-Identify a local Clinic which demonstrates commitment to dismantling oppression through its open, committed, relevant and affirming practice. It doesn't have to be everything, all at once. What is the commitment to self-care? Affirming cultural differences? Inclusion??
This challenge has two parts:
1. Identify
2. Include in your referrals
Let's create a nice list of these entities. A large and active referral list. I would love it if you could send your referral to my advocacy fb group with almost 500 members where we can promote these referrals:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/antioppressionidentityandhealing
We need a nice hashtag to support a movement. Might you also make a suggestion?
If you are unable to do 1 or 2, might you share the hashtag and/or this activity in your social media interactions? This is how change happens.
Our referrals reflect our power. Let's slow down and think about those entities we select. Emphasize the social/racial justice/diversity/inclusivity part in your referral comments. Let's keep this on the radar the importance of quality care.
When we don't care about how mental health providers are valued, it says a lot about community care. If you are a large corporation set up in a community, please consider the following:
Do you promote self-care amongst your workers?
Are there community partnerships that amplify traditionally marginalized voices?
Is there commitment to addressing ableism?
Do you support current legislation that affects healthcare/providers? Do you initiate such legislation?
Are candidates in your hiring process asked about their commitment to racial/social justice/equity?

As some of you sit down to a festive meal with family in the next day or so in the US, I wanted to add some information to put it into some context. Perhaps try to incorporate some discussion around this?

This is so true. It's times like this where we need to find something inside we can count on even if the world looks like it is falling apart.

The difference between the two requires wisdom and character. Is there a distinction for you between acceptance and tolerance?

One of the joys of life that is so accessible, but easily forgotten is to live in the now. As soon as we start analyzing, we remove ourselves from the moment. Perhaps not entirely, but life is lived in the body with the mind. What do we lose when we go to our heads?

If someone is talking *at* you rather than *to* you, it's possible that they just want to determine how their words appear out loud. It's as though you are not really there.

Personally, I think it's best to undertake a workbook with a therapist. This book is written for people to use independently. I used this workbook as a supplement to some of my group therapy sessions or for individuals wanting to do more work on their own. It has a lot of great strategies and a good section on loss. It contains lifestyle tips ad mindfulness exercises. It has a lot of "oomph" to it. One of the things I really like are the case studies which help put the work in context. I usually include values work with all my clients and there's some great stuff in there on that. It uses an integrative apporah using ACT, CBT and DBT so it's right up my ally. If you try it out, please circle back and let me know what you think.
