Operation Halyard Commemoration
Sunday, May 7, 2023 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Top Secret WWII Mission Honored at Airbase Arizona Flying Museum
Operation Halyard was a secret rescue mission conducted from August to December 1944, in the former Yugoslavia, to rescue Allied airmen who survived their aircraft being shot down during bombing missions of N**i targets during World War II. Hundreds of these airmen were protected by Serbian families which were organized by the Yugoslav Army in the homeland commanded by General Mihailovich, who worked with the U.S. Office of Strategic Services (OSS) to conduct the rescue mission.
The OSS and U.S. Army Air Force succeeded in rescuing approximately 500 airmen in daring and treacherous night landings on improvised mountain airfields at night.
Welcome to our special exhibition to commemorate Operation Halyard which includes exhibits, presentations, and aircraft flights presented to the public by the Airbase Arizona Flying Museum and the Halyard Mission Foundation.
