The team went through practice #3 today, preparing for the TAG Match in March. They received some foundational refreshers from a high-level USPSA coach in “Confident Draw, Purposeful Presentation and Continuous Grip”. Results of the tutorial were immediate!
Next they worked “Weak Shoulder Rifle” skills as part of a 2-tool match.
Then back to pistol to let freedom ring. The groups are getting tighter, and the team’s focus is on target!

We got back at it today!
We missed 2019 (Missions), 2020 & 2021 (Rona).
So here we are, in the 3rd week of August, building skills for the State Match in April 2023.
We’ve had a few retirements, so we are adding fresh members.
Today was 3 old guys and 7 fresh faces.
More to come in the coming months.

Members of the 161st participated in the AZ National Guard Biathlon today held at Florence Military Reservation. The event consisted of 7 shooting stages where competitors fired M16 rifles, M9 pistols, 12ga shotguns and M249 Squad Automatic Weapons at distances of 10 to 500 meters. Missed targets resulted in 100 meter penalty laps. Also included in the event was a memory challenge where competitors were given 5 random words at the start line which had to be repeated at the finish line. Including penalty laps, participants ran on average 7 miles total. The event was designed to test the competitor's physical endurance along with their mental acuity and toughness.

2LT Caleb Mischung from MXS and TSG Dan Martin from LRS placed 3rd of 20 2-person teams! Honorable mentions for completing the event include CPT Steve Paluga, CPT Silas Gadd, MSG Gary Nicholas, TSG Aindrea Tait, SSG Jay Turoski and SRA James Grady.

Much respect for these Copperheads representing the the 161st ARW!
