A cozy reading corner. New learning materials. A caregiver who pours her heart into the children she serves. ๐
Recently, our team visited Olga, one of our ๐๐ถ๐๐ต & ๐๐ถ๐ป ๐ฃ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ด๐ฟ๐ฎ๐บ participants, and got to see the beautiful literacy space she created inside her home child care program using materials provided through the program.
From books and writing tools to hands-on learning materials, every detail was thoughtfully arranged to help young children build early language, reading, and writing skills through everyday play and exploration.
Seeing Olgaโs excitement, and hearing her heartfelt words of gratitude, was a powerful reminder that when we invest in caregivers, we help create stronger learning environments for children from the very beginning.
Thank you, Olga, for the love and care you bring to your community each day.

Held this year at the Renaissance Glendale Conference Center, the Expo brought together 84 different organizations committed to supporting children and families across Arizona.
It was a wonderful opportunity to connect, collaborate, and share resources with others doing this important work.
A special thank you to our ๐๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ๐ฒ๐น๐ฒ๐ป team members Jorge Sanchez, Sandy Mendoza, Meka Harbert, and Jacqueline Diaz for representing us at this yearโs event!

Their workshop, โ๐๐ค๐จ๐ฉ๐๐ง๐๐ฃ๐ ๐๐ค๐จ๐๐ฉ๐๐ซ๐ ๐พ๐๐ง๐๐๐๐ซ๐๐ฃ๐ ๐๐ฃ ๐๐ฃ๐๐ค๐ง๐ข๐๐ก ๐พ๐๐ง๐: ๐๐ฉ๐ง๐๐ฃ๐๐ฉ๐๐๐ฃ๐๐ฃ๐ ๐๐๐ข๐๐ก๐๐๐จ ๐๐๐ง๐ค๐ช๐๐ ๐๐ช๐ง๐ฅ๐ค๐จ๐๐๐ช๐ก ๐๐ช๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ค๐ง๐ฉ,โ highlights the critical role family, friend, and neighbor (FFN) caregivers play in supporting young children and families across Arizona. The session will explore evaluation findings from Candelenโs FFN caregiver program and how intentional support for informal caregivers can strengthen protective factors, improve caregiving practices, and build stronger systems of support for families.
Weโre proud to not only sponsor this yearโs conference, but also contribute to conversations that center prevention, connection, and community-based support for children and families across Arizona.

๐๐ฎ๐ฝ๐ฝ๐ ๐ ๐ผ๐๐ต๐ฒ๐ฟโ๐ ๐๐ฎ๐! ๐๐
Today we celebrate you, the mothers, grandmothers, caregivers, and mother figures who give so much of yourselves every single day. Your love, strength, patience, and care shape families, childhoods, and entire communities in ways that truly matter.
At Candelen, we see the impact you make every day. The comfort you provide, the lessons you teach, the encouragement you give, and the countless ways you show up do not go unnoticed.
We hope today brings you moments of rest, joy, love, and appreciation. You deserve it. ๐ท
This ๐ง๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ต๐ฒ๐ฟ ๐๐ฝ๐ฝ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป ๐ช๐ฒ๐ฒ๐ธ, we want to say a heartfelt thank you to the teachers who pour so much of themselves into helping children learn, grow, and feel valued. ๐
The work you do goes far beyond lessons and routines. You create safe spaces, build confidence, encourage curiosity, offer comfort, and help shape the foundation children carry with them for years to come. The patience, care, and consistency you bring each day make a lasting difference, even in moments that may feel small.
Weโre especially grateful for the ๐๐ฎ๐ฟ๐น๐ ๐๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฒ ๐๐ฑ๐๐ฐ๐ฎ๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐ in our ๐๐ถ๐๐ต & ๐๐ถ๐ป ๐ฃ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ด๐ฟ๐ฎ๐บ who care for children while caregivers attend groups to learn, connect, and grow together. Thank you for creating a warm, safe, and nurturing space where children feel supported and cared for each day. Candelen wouldnโt be the same without you. ๐๐ท

Behind every strong mother is a story we donโt always see. Moments of exhaustion, anxiety, joy, and everything in between. With 1 in 8 mothers experiencing postpartum depression, awareness helps break stigma and connect moms to the support they deserve.
Maternal mental health matters, not just for moms, but for families and entire communities. When we bring light to it, we reduce stigma, encourage connection, and help make support more accessible.
At Candelen, our ๐ง๐ณ๐ฆ๐ฆ ๐ฃ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ด๐ป๐ฎ๐ป๐ฐ๐ & ๐ฃ๐ผ๐๐๐ฝ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐๐๐บ ๐ฃ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ด๐ฟ๐ฎ๐บ provides care, connection, and trusted guidance so mothers donโt have to navigate this journey alone. Community matters. And when moms are supported, families, and entire communities, thrive.
๐ This is what early learning looks like.
โToday I had the best observation in a developmental Pre-K class. The teachers made playdough pizza from scratch. There was so much measuring and math and mess (flour everywhere ๐). A classroom friend brought the pretend keyboard from the dramatic play area and followed me around, helping count materials. I live for these days. So much learning, laughter, and fun. Getting to see amazing teachers in action.โ - Jennifer Garcia, Lead Coach at Candelen.
Moments like these are why we do what we do.
At Candelen, we believe children learn best through play, curiosity, and connection, and that educators and caregivers deserve the support, tools, and encouragement to create these magical moments every day.
Whether itโs in a classroom, a family child care home, or with a caregiver at home, this is the kind of joyful, meaningful learning weโre committed to nurturing across our communities. ๐ตโจ

Two of our staff members have been elected to the board of the Arizona Association for the Education of Young Children, a leading voice for early childhood in Arizona.
๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐ด๐ฒ ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฐ๐ต๐ฒ๐ was elected in December 2025, and Bianey Garcia was recently elected in March 2026. This is an exciting recognition of their leadership, expertise, and dedication to families.
Through their roles, they will help guide conversations and decisions at a statewide level. This is exactly the kind of impact we strive for, not just within our programs, but across the entire early childhood system.
We are so proud of them and their work ahead. ๐
