Happy Birthday to West Virginia, 35th state to join our Union on June 20, 1863. On the flag, white = purity; blue border = Union; border of flowers around the seal are Rhododendrons, the state flower. The state's motto, in Latin on a ribbon across the bottom of the flag, translates as "mountaineers are always free".

Today we celebrate Juneteenth (June 19th), the day slaves were finally freed in Galveston, Texas in 1865, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. It became a federal holiday in 2021. It represents "a star of Texas bursting with new freedom throughout the land, over a new horizon." The colors echo the US flag.

Happy Independence Day to the Philippines, gained from the Spanish Empire on June 12, 1898. On the flag, the white triangle symbolizes liberty, equality and fraternity; the horizontal blue stripe = peace, truth, and justice; the horizontal red stripe = patriotism and valor. The eight-rayed golden sun = unity, freedom, people's democracy, sovereignty. Each ray = a province.

Happy National Day to Sweden! June 6 celebrates the election of King Gustav Vasa in 1523 - considered a formal declaration of independence - and new constitutions in 1809 and 1974. There is myth and legend surrounding the origins of the flag, but in general, the design/colors are thought to have been inspired by the Swedish coat of arms of 1442.
