Last week, members of the Veregy Northern California Consulting Engineering team celebrated Earth Day with a volunteer event on Alcatraz Island in partnership with the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy.

The team helped restore a portion of the island’s historic gardens by cutting back bearded Iris leaves and preparing clippings for composting efforts. Originally maintained by military personnel, their families, and inmates, the gardens fell into disrepair after the prison closed.

From supporting restoration efforts to learning more about the island’s unique history, the day was a great reminder that sustainability and stewardship can take many forms. At Veregy, we’re proud to support initiatives that help preserve and strengthen the communities and environments around us!
