St. Michael Connection

Joan of Arc Parishioners. Every Navajo family that is made available for adoption defines "poverty,” and it’s only a few hours’ drive away. Our mission is timed to get much needed food, clothing and gifts to share the Christmas joy we love, in some way. Often our gifts arrive when the cupboards are bare and the weather is cold and wet. For SMIS volunteers it is an annual labor of love and compassion. Every year we see the smiles, feel the happiness and share in some small way the Navajo culture of Christmas. The St. Michael Indian School Connection is a small Core Team made up of several families from St. Joan of Arc Parish in Phoenix, Arizona. For twenty consecutive years (yes, even through the COVID 19 lockdown), this small Core Team continues the work of St. Katharine Drexel by ministering to the needs of a small part of the Navajo Nation, that covers 27,000 square miles in parts of Arizona, New Mexico and Utah.
