From co-op to CEO, Mary Barra proves that anything is possible when you are determined and consistent. Barra began working at General Motors as a co-op student in 1980 when she was just 18 years old to help pay for her college tuition. With her B.S. in Electrical Engineering and dedication to her work, she became VP of Global Manufacturing Engineering in 2008, VP of Global Human Resources in 2009, and Executive VP of Global Product Development in 2011. She took over the reigns of the company in 2014, when she became the first female CEO of a ‘Big Three’ automotive company.

Barra’s recent comments on how the auto industry is handling the ever-changing landscape shaped by technology and global economy, but remains confident in her company’s ability to utilize these tools and factors to continue delivering the best products available to GM’s customers. Talk about women leadership in action!

Helping pave the road for dreamers following her (pun intended)! 🏎️ ON THIS DAY, Janet Guthrie was the first woman to qualify for and compete in the Indy 500. About the downtown parade for the race, Guthrie said “There were these guys who had little girls on their shoulders and were sort of waving these little girls as if I represented hope for the future.” She certainly represents hope, as women continue to break barriers in the motorsports world across the world.
