One of the reasons I love IR so much is because we are on the forefront of modern medicine. The Alfapump was FDA approved in December 2024 so it is relatively new, but this device has been giving patients who deal with chronic ascites a new lease on life! I got so many questions when I first posted about this, so hopefully this gives some better insight into the procedure! As always, let me know if you have any questions!

Port placements are one of our most common procedures in IR and also one of the most nerve wracking for patients. One of my favorite things is taking care of patients coming in for these procedures & by the time I drop them off in recovery they are saying to me ‘that wasn’t nearly as bad as I had imagined’.
