The Snikt List

-Wolverine’s enemies are numerous and it is often hard not to blame them. After all, he is a hard guy to get along with.

However, an adversary, with abilities to match Logan’s, is Victor Creed (AKA Sabertooth) who also has retractable claws and healing factor. The two first clashed in Japan with Logan coming out on top and leaving Creed for dead, unaware that he had regenerative powers as well. Creed is an operative of the mastermind Romulus, ruler of the wolf-like Lupine and a worldwide criminal empire. Two of Wolverine’s maternal uncles, Elias and Frederick Hudson, work for him, although he is unaware of it. Romulus kept an eye on Logan for a good portion of his life and mentally manipulated him at times.

A Long History

-James Howlett was born to wealthy John and Elizabeth Howlett in Alberta, Canada, during the last years of the 19th century. As a child, he was frail and unhealthy due to his overactive mutant immune system and was neglected by his mother, who had been institutionalized following the death of her first son, John Jr., in 1897. James’s mutant abilities were triggered when his father was shot by the Howlett groundskeeper Thomas Logan, whom he did not know was his real father. James killed Logan, slashed the face of Logan’s son and his friend Dog, and left Alberta with a childhood friend, Rose O’Hara.

His healing abilities drove trauma from his memories, leaving him partially amnesiac. He and Rose found refuge at a British Columbia stone quarry, where Rose, claiming James was her cousin, gave his name as “Logan.” Within months, Logan’s powers were heightening due to the environment around him. He became healthier and gained senses to rival those of an animal, but also became more violent. To divert some of this pent-up rage, Logan partook in cage fights where his prowess earned him the nickname “Wolverine.” After accidentally killing Rose with his claws, Logan retreated into the woods where he lived as a feral beast, losing all of his former memories.

He would later reenter society and travel the world, partaking in every major conflict of the 20th century (WWI, WWII, the Spanish Civil War, the Vietnam War) as a soldier, criminal, or mercenary for hire. This caused him to coin the phrase "I'm the best there is at what I do, but what I do best isn't very nice.”

While on the run from the law, he was abducted by the Canadian super soldier program known as “Weapon X.” He had previously been a willing participant in the program in the early 1960s as an international operative of Team X. Logan was a prime candidate for this new iteration of Weapon X due to his incredibly fast healing and endurance, which allowed Doctor Cornelius and his team to fuse adamantium to his skeleton. The experiment was successful and gave Logan more control over his berserker nature, but also wiped him of any residual memories he had lingering in his head.

When the Hulk blundered his way into Canadian territory, Logan was mobilized against the green gargantuan. He was also used to kill the entire population of a small town in a field test, but eventually broke loose from his captors, slaying almost everyone at the Weapon X facility. Despite this, they still had his DNA and were able to create new mutants like Avery Connor and clawed clone called X-23 (aka Laura Kinney).

His real sense of belonging would not arrive until he joined the X-Men.

Slashing Skills

-Wolverine’s rapid regeneration powers allow him to bounce back from almost every type of bodily wound on the condition that his head remains firmly attached to his shoulders. Nevertheless, the time of each healing is understandably proportionate to the severity of the injury. His body is also immune to most poisons, drugs, and diseases; his agility, reflexes, and senses are similarly enhanced. Wolverine sees and hears things at distances far greater than those of ordinary humans. His sense of smell is even more magnified and he can recognize people and objects by scent alone, which, combined with combat and stealth training, makes him one of the world’s foremost trackers.

Hugh Jackman Didn’t Know About Wolverine
During an interview on HBO, Hugh Jackman answered questions that led to him squishing rumors about him taking steroids to easily bulk up to play as Logan. Hugh Jackman then talked about the negative sides of steroid use, then stating that he didn’t love it “that much” playing Wolverine. He also shared having studied wolves when he was first cast for the role.

“I had never read the comic book… I didn’t, in Australia, we don’t have wolverines. I didn’t know that was a real animal. I’d never heard of a wolverine. I thought it was a made-up animal.” He also went on to say, “so I went (to set) with all these wolf moves and I was doing these moves, and the director said, ‘what are you doing?’ And I said, ‘well, I was just thinking wolves are always looking like this because they’re actually smelling, they’ve got their nose to the ground…’ and he goes, ‘What do you mean a wolf?’ And I said, ‘well, you know, Wolverine—I’m part wolf so…’ and he goes, ‘no, you’re a wolverine.’”

Hugh Jackman also stated he had never read a comic book: “I had never read the comic book…I didn’t, in Australia, we don’t have wolverines. I didn’t know that was a real animal. I’d never heard of a wolverine. I thought it was a made-up animal.” It is kinda funny to think about the actor who plays Wolverine not knowing the animal exist…but at least he knows now!

After Disney’s $71.3 billion acquisition of 20th Century Fox in 2019, which gave the production giant the rights to Marvel’s X-Men, fans have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of the rag-tag group of super-powered mutants. But the most anticipated appearance is that of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. The actor has played the super-mutant with the iconic adamantium claws across nine films and wrapped up his journey as Wolverine in 2017’s critically and commercially acclaimed Logan. But a recent report has raised the possibility that Jackman is going to reprise his role once again and will be soon making his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Geekosity Mag has reported that Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness, which is already teeming with confirmed and rumored news of many notable Marvel characters, will also feature Wolverine. As per the report, Patrick Stewart will also be making a comeback as Professor X and it is his involvement that convinced Jackman to ditch his former resolve to never play the Marvel character again.

Reportedly, it was Sam Raimi’s idea to include both the actors in Doctor Strange 2 as he wants his films to trump the chaos that will be witnessed in Spider-Man: No Way Home. But how does Marvel plan to make both Patrick Stewart and Hugh Jackman’s return look seamless? After all, both Wolverine and Professor X died in Logan. Will the Marvel Cinematic Universe ditch the storyline in the prior X-Men films and give them a fresh start? Well, no and yes.

The outlet has reported that according to its sources, the MCU will not be tampering with Logan or the way it ends Professor X and Wolverine’s story. Apparently, both Patrick Stewart and Hugh Jackman will be playing variants of their original character in the upcoming film. This makes the X-Men films’ characters part of the Sacred Timeline and retains their deaths, thus leaving their journey from 2000’s X-Men to 2017’s Logan intact.

Although the third instalment of the Deadpool series isn't out for almost two years, Hugh Jackman is already getting his ducks in a row to prepare to don Wolverine's adamantium claws once again.

After sharing updates on his workout plan in previous interviews across the year, the 54-year-old has newly revealed his diet program in pursuit of renewed superhero swoleness, and it includes sirloin steaks, chicken burgers and fat slabs of fish. On Instagram yesterday, the actor posted a photo of his daily 8,000 calorie meal prep, consisting of six boxed-up meals — the bulkiest Uber Eats one will ever find that isn't eight twenty-piece boxes of post-night out Chicken McNuggets.

Wolverine Defeated Lobo With The Power Of Democracy!

There is a misconception that DC and Marvel comics are rivals. This is not the case. The two companies have done numerous crossovers with each other over the years. These mostly involved team-ups of heroes vs villains (like Batman and Captain America joining forces to fight the Joker and Red Skull).

In 1996, DC and Marvel announced plans for a crossover series that would pit their characters against each other. The results of each fight would be decided via a fan vote. Wolverine was intended to fight Lobo.

Wolverine is a badass character to be sure, but Lobo can go toe-to-toe with Superman. Lobo should have absolutely destroyed Wolverine. The fan vote was overwhelmingly in Wolverine's favour, however, as he is the more popular character. When the fight between the two characters started, it immediately went behind a bar, with Wolverine emerging the victor. The fight wasn't shown, as the writers couldn't think of a way to have Wolverine realistically beat Lobo.

WolverineWolverine has the luxury to be the only X-Men character to consistently hold down a solo comic title since his ongoing debuted in 1988. With an overwhelming onslaught of stories, it can be hard to know where to start. But just like Logan anytime he runs across a teenage girl, I am willing to be your gruff mentor with a heart of gold through the raging seas of Wolverine because I have compiled the 10 best Wolverine stories of all time.

Now, you will not agree with every pick, but trust the master. There are some iconic classics in here, some modern favorites, and some stories where Wolverine fights a sentient pile of co***ne. This is intentional. Each odd arc, each harrowing ronin’s tale, each bloody team-up, highlights a different aspect of Wolverine and you must understand the whole of Wolverine to truly appreciate him.

BY CHRIS CLAREMONT & FRANK MILLER
By 1982 Chris Claremont was riding high, having written the seminal “The Dark Phoenix Saga” and “Days Of Future Past” nearly back to back in Uncanny X-Men. Frank Miller was in the final stretches of his game changing run on Daredevil, having just passed the baton on art duties for the book. They were the biggest names in comics and they were about to make Wolverine the biggest character in the industry.

In a way, Wolverine is a mini-series that is a perfect fusion of its creators. Claremont’s pathos and love for soap opera theatrics combine with Miller’s deft sense of action and passion for drawing ninjas. It’s a dense, emotional story where Wolverine battles hopelessly to not just save the woman he loves from an abusive marriage, but prove that he is more than a mindless animal. Logan has to find honor, inner peace, and a direction for his life.

He also has to fight a metric ton of ninjas.

Miller puts on a masterclass in setting up action scenes in what is arguably his best work (and yes I’m including The Dark Knight Returns so don’t even ask). Claremont takes plenty of time to write long, contemplative monologues as he is want to do, but also knows when to step back and let his artist take control.

Every Wolverine story lives in the shadow of this one, and for good reason. It is two of the best creators in the industry, at the peak of their strength, writing a tight story that utterly defines the most important character in comics since the Silver Age. It’s that good.

Wolverine (2009
The gruff, adamantium-clawed Marvel superhero Wolverine strikes out on his own in this X-Men spin-off starring series regular Hugh Jackman. The story gets under way as the boy who will become Wolverine makes a shocking discovery about his family bloodline, and gains a brother in the process. Flash forward to find the mutant siblings battling side by side through two world wars and Vietnam -- where they are sentenced to death for killing a commanding officer -- and Logan (Hugh Jackman) and his brother, Victor Creed (aka Sabretooth, played by Liev Schreiber), have joined a top-secret government task force.

CINEMAUTOPSY: WHAT WENT WRONG WITH ‘X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE’?
Most of X-Men Origin’s version of “Weapon X,” the iconic comics storyline where Wolverine gets his adamantium skeleton, is pretty terrible, but Jackman’s fury after his transformation into an unstoppable killing machine is terrifying. Comics’ Wolverine often flies into what’s referred to as “berserker rage,” a concept that sounds pretty badass on the page, but could look mighty foolish onscreen.

'Logan' is a gripping Wolverine story to take seriously
James Mangold's Logan is an uncommonly mature comic book movie, practically from another universe unto itself. It's a movie demanding and deserving to be taken seriously, an elegy for a mutant.
