YOUR PAST ONLY CONTROLS YOU WHEN YOU KEEP FOLLOWING IT

An old memory rises—and immediately the mind wants to enter it. It wants to replay what happened, reopen the wound, defend itself, blame someone, understand everything again, or desperately push the memory away. But both following the memory and fighting it keep you trapped inside the same conditioning.

The deeper way is neither suppression nor indulgence. When the memory appears, remain completely present. Watch it arise without becoming its story. Notice that the memory comes and goes, but the awareness witnessing it remains untouched.

This is the radical doorway pointed toward in the Vigyan Bhairav Ta**ra: instead of becoming absorbed in what appears within consciousness, turn toward the silent space in which it appears. The memory belongs to time. Awareness does not.

Your conditioning survives because you repeatedly identify with what the mind brings back. The moment you stop feeding the old pattern—and simply remain as the witnessing presence—the past begins to lose its authority.

You do not become free by destroying every memory.

You become free when memory can arise without becoming you.
