Scenes from York. So. Much. History.

Day 2 of our trip to PA was sloppy and wet, but we found another gorgeous, 1902 train station in Staunton VA. Oh, and I have to take back my comment about truck stop architecture! Sometimes it can be entertaining. Moonshine! Next stop - the Small Museums Conference in York.

Historians cannot live on truck stop architecture alone. Our roadtrip goal this year is to pause and soak up some history and art in towns we normally buzz right through. First pause on this trip was to check out Union Station in Texarkana. Gorgeous, aged, and much in need of restoration, this ode to the days of railroad boom towns was a welcome sight.
With quaint main streets, fun murals, and restaurants that looked inviting, it was a shame to jump back on the road. *sigh*

Museum Pros is on the road again, this time en route to Pennsylvania. The shotgun seat office is set up and Joe is busy inspecting the new wifi device.

After starting with an empty gallery last week, we began with a few monarchs on the wall....and then it got a little crazy! 300 monarchs and a trailer full of vibrant props later - here is the finished product. This exhibit is up for the next 12 months at Rancho Los Cerritos in Long Beach. If you get a chance to visit, please tell us what you think!

This week's adventure began with a rare delight......a perfectly clean, empty gallery! Our task: create a scene that illustrates the vibrant story of American Barrios in Southern California during the 1920s and '30s.

As the days fly by, bringing us nearer to installation, the shop is sheer pandemonium! Oofdah!

23 days and counting......today was setting up a mercado vignette and using every hand tool available in an attempt to fabricate faux sugar beets! Suggestions welcome....

The countdown is on! We have 24 days to fully execute a gallery in Southern California. The fabrication shop is bursting with energy. Today's task......paint mixing!

Recent work shenanigans.......AZ Capitol Museum, S'edav Va'aki Museum, artifacts selection, playing with lights, a quick trip to Long Beach, a young shop apprentice, a dozen or so boarding passes, and a well-earned adult beverage - after hours, of course! Cheers to all the museum junkies out there. We appreciate you!

Remembering this 84th anniversary of Pearl Harbor Day with a flashback to our first Museum Pros traveling exhibit, A Sailor's Story. The display features Pearl Harbor survivor, Navy Radioman Walter Hoffland, and is on exhibit at Airbase Arizona in Mesa. We are thankful everyday to those who served and feel honored to tell their stories.
