Soul Food Sunday returns May 24th
After some time away, we’re looking forward to gathering again for another Soul Food Sunday with Ustadh Amjad Tarsin.
These gatherings have become a space for sincere companionship, reflection, and nourishment for both the body and the soul. Together, we continue exploring the connection between our outward actions and the state of the heart while building meaningful community rooted in remembrance of Allah.
As always, we’ll gather around good food, conversation, and beneficial knowledge. Feel free to bring a dish to contribute to the community potluck and come ready to reconnect with old friends and meet new faces.

We pray this gathering is a source of grounding, growth, and barakah for everyone who attends. We look forward to seeing you there.
So often, art and faith are treated as separate worlds. Dr. returned us to the sacred sources to recover a richer vision, one where beauty, imagination, eloquence, and skilled expression have a rightful place in the life of a believer.

Ayah to Art: Art and Creativity in the Qur’an and Sunnah
Join us this Friday at Grounded for an evening with Dr. on how revelation shapes creativity, beauty, and excellence in the life of a believer.
The Qur’an moves through language, imagery, rhythm, and symbolism that stir the soul. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) loved beauty, poetry, eloquence, and craftsmanship.
Dr. Hussain will walk us through these sacred sources and the concept of ihsan, doing what is beautiful and excellent, as a foundation for meaningful creative work.
Whether you are an artist, writer, designer, educator, or simply someone seeking to live with more intention, this evening offers a fresh perspective on how revelation can inspire creativity, purpose, and beauty in the modern world.

This is what Grounded Roots looks like on a Sunday.
Ibrahim and Jordan, 14 years old, spent the morning at the garden. They cleaned the chicken coop, collected fresh eggs from our chickens and ducks, and continued preparing the garden beds. Real work. Side by side.
After, they headed to Out West for a burger and brought one of the eggs fresh from the farm, hoping for the full farm to table experience. The restaurant did not use it, but the vision was there and the burger was still the best one yet.
This is what we are building. A place where young people get their hands dirty, see where food comes from, and spend real time with people who are invested in them. One Sunday at a time.
Grounded Roots. Every Sunday, 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

One of the first things we asked our young men to do was take off their shoes and socks and let their feet touch the earth. For most of them, it was the first time they had ever done that. They stood there, barefoot in the grass, and one of them said the air felt different out here. Another said it was just really nice to leave the city, to see trees, to be around the chickens and the ducks. To breathe.
That is what Grounded Roots is for.
In partnership with .a.f.e , a Philadelphia program centered on Service, Agriculture, Financial literacy, and Entrepreneurship, we are building a weekly space where young Black boys can step off of concrete, put their hands in the soil, and remember something the city sometimes takes from them. That they belong to the earth. That the earth belongs to them. That growing something is an act of power.
And we believe that healing is stronger when it happens across generations. Grounded Roots is a space for the whole community. Elders, parents, young adults, and children, all working the same land, sharing the same air, and passing something real down to one another.
Every Sunday we plant, tend the bees, care for the chickens, water the beds, and grow together. Come bring your family. Come bring your neighbors. Come be part of something that will last.

There is healing in soil, in seeds, and in the simple act of growing something together.
Grounded Roots is now a weekly program, and we want you to be part of it. Every Sunday from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, we gather on donated land at International Montessori School to do the real work of tending the earth together. Planting, watering the beds, feeding and caring for the chickens, checking in on the bees, weeding, landscaping, and more. Responsibilities shift week to week, but the commitment stays the same. Show up, dig in, and grow with your community.

Grounded Roots is our community gardening program, and this Saturday we are gathering for the very first time on land that was generously donated to us. Seven garden beds, a beehive, chickens, and ducks. All of it an invitation to slow down, connect, and grow alongside each other.
Come garden, learn, and belong. We will close the day out with a cookout.

Ramadan has passed, and we are still feeling its weight. We gave ourselves a week to rest, reflect, and grieve what we always grieve when it leaves.
Now we return to the work.
Starting this week, our Monday Grounded Path class and Tuesday Prophetic Portrait class are back, both running 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM at 807 N 63rd Street.
We will break for Maghreb together when it comes in.
Come ready to learn. Come ready to sit with your brothers and sisters. The circle is open.

Eid Mubarak to our beloved community! Taqabbal Allahu minna wa minkum.
This Ramadan was something we will carry for a long time.
We broke fast together week after week. We sat with Shaykh Auzair and opened the Quran together, prayed Tarawih shoulder to shoulder, and stayed through the night in worship, conversation, laughter, and coffee until Fajr came in. We welcomed people into Islam in this space. We fed nearly 3,000 people this month alone.
We prayed together, served together, and simply were together. That is what this community was built for.
Jazakumullahu khayran to everyone who showed up, brought food, gave, volunteered, or just sat in that space and made it feel alive. You are what Grounded is.
May Allah accept from all of us. May this Eid bring your homes peace and your hearts ease.
We love you all for the sake of Allah.
On the 27th night of Ramadan, Allah سبحانه وتعالى honored our community with one of the greatest gifts a gathering can receive.
Sister Neisha took her Shahada with us.
She bore witness that there is no god but Allah, and that Muhammad is His Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him. And the community that surrounded her did what this community was built to do. They celebrated her, embraced her, and welcomed her home.
This is why we gather. This is why we keep the doors open. This is why we cook the food, hold the programs, and make space for people who are still finding their way. Because you never know who Allah will send through the door, and on what night He will choose to honor your space with a moment like this.
Da’wah is lived before it is spoken. It is the warmth of a community, the sincerity of people on the path of loving the Prophet ﷺ, and the mercy that flows through a room when believers gather for His sake.
Welcome to the family, Sister Neisha. May Allah make your path easy, keep your heart firm, and surround you always with people who love you for His sake.
To everyone who was there: you were part of this. Alhamdulillah.

After our last iftar, the community asked for more nights together. More time to pray, to sit with each other, to be present in these final days. So we are opening the space.
Grounded After-hours will be open from 10 PM to Fajr on the 27th and 29th nights of Ramadan. Come pray through the night, connect with your community, enjoy some coffee, and do crafts. Sisters, will be with us both nights. Suhoor will be provided, and we will pray Fajr together before heading home.
No iftar these nights, so come fed and ready to stay.
Laylat al-Qadr is in these last nights. We want to spend them together.
