Stakes need to be personal, not just loud.

The goal is the visible part. The deeper question is what the character believes the goal will prove, protect, avoid, or finally make possible.

That is where the audience starts to understand why this story matters to this person.

Same goal. Different belief underneath. Completely different story engine.

If your second act drags, “more stuff” is rarely the cleanest answer.

Sometimes the event is there, but it is not pressuring the thing that actually matters: the character’s false belief.

A chase, a breakup, a secret, a betrayal, a deadline. None of those are automatically dramatic. The drama comes when they collide with a belief the character doesn’t want to let go of.

That is the difference between events and story pressure.
