This week, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg took the stand in a landmark social media addiction trial. A 19-year-old young woman’s life — depression, anxiety, body dysmorphia — is at the center of it.

We weren’t surprised.

We run a recovery program right here in Kensington. We see addiction up close every single day. And what we’re watching now is a new front opening — one that starts on a screen, in a child’s hand, long before anything else ever enters the picture.

Social media is engineered to hook our children. That’s not a theory anymore. It’s on trial.
But while courts and corporations sort that out, every youth organization in Kensington is already fighting back. Every day. Without fanfare. Without headlines.

To EVERY organization in our community working with young people — after school programs, sports leagues, arts programs, mentorship groups, faith communities — WE SEE YOU. We salute you. 🙏
You are the frontline defense against every kind of addiction. Keep going!

The opioid crisis taught us what happens when predatory systems target vulnerable people and nobody speaks up. We cannot afford to learn that lesson twice.

Our children deserve better. Kensington deserves better.
