We believe that arts and culture are the greatest ways to make a social impact because they make different perspectives accessible. Today, we are excited to share the first Juneteenth “Freedom Day” mural in Philadelphia at Germantown ArtHaus. It faces the Johnson House, a known stop on the Underground Railroad, in the Germantown neighborhood.

Philadelphia’s mural, which was unveiled and dedicated this past weekend, is part of the Absolute Equality – Juneteenth Project, which originated in Galveston, TX (the birthplace of Juneteenth) in 2021.

You can read more about the thoughtful details of the mural in the designer’s own words here: https://buff.ly/3NBe7e8

We are in the business of creating space to share ideas, knowing that ideas change individuals, communities, and the world. We also know that the universe conspires to help people who are committed to change. This fortune cookie was a welcome reminder.

What are you listening for today?

In 1996, students organized the first Day of Silence, meant to illustrate the silencing effect of oppression and harassment. Today, thousands of students and their supporters will take a day-long vow of silence to stand beside LGBTQ individuals and communities.

We stand in awe of the younger generations. The kids are all right.

What energizes you?! I believe with all my heart that the work WE do is impactful — and ongoing.

A few weeks ago, we were privileged to be the presenting sponsor at the ChangeMakHERs program with The Walnut Club.

We were joined by an extraordinary list of regional non-profits including: Philadelphia Ethical Society, Dress for Success (Greater Philadelphia), Fair Districts PA, Nationalities Service Center, NSC, CeaseFirePA, League of Women Voters of Philadelphia, and HIAS Pennsylvania.

I'm still buzzing from the conversations, the energy, and the promise of change. Thanks to all who participated! We look forward to hearing how you're staying in action!
