🏈 THROWBACK THURSDAY: Marcus Dupree. The Best. Period.

There was a time in Philadelphia when Friday night meant one thing…Football.

And if you were around Philadelphia in the late early 1980s, you probably remember one name better than most: MARCUS DUPREE.

Before the newspaper headlines, the national attention and all the talk about where he was headed, Marcus was just a young man from Philadelphia, Mississippi, wearing that Philadelphia High School uniform and running through defenses right here at home. And boy, could he run.

Dupree went on to set the national record for career rushing touchdowns while playing high school football at Philadelphia.

But those of us who call Philadelphia home know there's more to the story than a record book. We remember the excitement. We remember Friday nights. We remember folks talking about the game long after the final whistle.

And we remember watching a young man from our little corner of Mississippi become one of the most talked-about high school football players in the country.

Marcus Dupree wasn't just a football star from Philadelphia.

For a generation of people here, he was OUR football star.
