Inspired by reporting from Green Philly's guide to community fridges and food distros in Philadelphia 💚

Community organizations like South Philadelphia Community Fridge, Bebashi, The People’s Kitchen, South Philly Food Not Bombs, and Share Food Program’s Philly Food Rescue are helping connect neighbors with food across the city while reducing waste.

Before throwing food away, consider whether it could help someone else first. 🍎

SNAP cuts strain Philly food banks as neighbors step up to help 05/19/2026

Five Share Food Program staff members were featured in Billy Penn discussing the growing hunger crisis facing Philadelphia — and what they’re seeing every day on the frontlines of food insecurity.

As SNAP cuts, rising food costs, and economic instability continue to impact families across our region, more neighbors are turning to food banks, community fridges, and emergency food programs just to get by.

Inside Share’s warehouses, pantries, food recovery operations, and volunteer programs, our staff are witnessing both the strain and the resilience of our communities in real time.

Food is a human right.

We’re proud of the staff, volunteers, pantry partners, donors, and neighbors who continue showing up for Philadelphia every single day.

More than 668,000 people lost SNAP benefits in a single month. Pennsylvania alone saw a decline of over 37,000 recipients.

As stricter eligibility rules take effect nationwide, advocates warn that fewer SNAP benefits will mean more hunger and greater hardship for low-income communities.

Food insecurity is not disappearing — support is. We are seeing it first hand.

Over the last year, grocery costs for items like meat, coffee, and fresh produce have climbed, while rising fuel and transportation costs may continue putting pressure on food systems. When healthy foods become more expensive, communities feel it.

Access to nutritious food shouldn't depend on what happens at the checkout line.

This Mother’s Day, we’re honoring the strength, care, and resilience of moms everywhere 💛

For many families, love also looks like making hard choices: stretching meals, skipping food, and doing everything possible to make sure their kids are fed.

Every parent deserves the ability to nourish their family.
Food access is not a luxury, it’s a basic need.

Let’s build a future where no one has to choose between groceries and anything else.
