Prom season is coming over the horizon and this year we thought it'd be a wonderful idea to engage with the community by allowing some incredibly talented artists to sell their wares at this coming Q***r Prom! MYTH: Trans people can only be trans men or trans women / non-binary, xenogenders, and neopronouns aren’t valid. As stated last week, genders outside of the binary have existed for an ungodly amount of time. Furthermore, neopronouns have also found themselves consistently in the English lexicon. English has grown and changed over time, with the term she/her even once being a neo (new) pronoun. With xenogenders, whether someone feels their gender is heavily connected to an animal, a concept, an aesthetic or other, there are options for them to choose from. Many people believe those who identify with xenogenders are "faking it", but I'd argue it's not the case. Gender is not a solid, understood thing. It is a creation of this time. So who's to say people can't play with something not solid?

Good Morning! Today is Trans Day of Remembrance, in which thousands around the country and the world celebrate and remember the lives we've lost to transphobia and violence against trans people. Being trans is very hard currently, but being in community with one another can help alleviate that struggle and make people feel less alone.

Join the QSU and Gender Sexuality Resource Center at 3pm today to commemorate those we have lost and take solace in the community we have on this campus. 🏳️‍⚧️🕯️

MYTH: Interacting with trans people will turn you, or your child, trans.

This one has always made us curious as not only removes agency from one's child, but also gives trans people a lot more power than they have. Can being around trans people help someone realize they're gender diverse? Absolutely! But it won't magically cause someone secure in their gender identity to begin saying they're trans. That's very silly.

MYTH: Being Trans or Gender Diverse is a mental illness.

I'm sure you've heard this said before by many people who don't agree with the idea of transgenderism being something of the norm. What they don't seem to realize is that, before colonialism, differing presentations of gender and its concepts were not as cut and dry as they are now.

There are many cases of previous cultures embracing gender diversity amongst themselves, seeing no reason to confine themselves to specific gendered roles.

Happy November and Happy Trans Awareness Month!! In a time where transness is the butt of the joke, a scapegoat, and seen as a threat to those in power, it's never been more important to know the facts, speak your truth, and be authentically yourself.

Every Friday, we will post a myth about Transness and debunk said myth. We've also started a new Monthly and Weekly Newsletter!! Stay up to date with what the club is up to and what's q***r around Philly by signing up via the link in our bio!!
