Real Cost of Prisons Project Black Philly Radical Collective Amistad Law Project Abolitionist Law Center Pennsylvania Prison Society spread the word, Toxic Prisons have got to go!
HRC has fought for our loved ones in prison since the year 2001. While we are pleased that Gov. Shapiro and the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections (DOC) have announced the closure of two prisons, we need you to support us in our efforts to have SCI Fayette be one of the prisons that is shut down!
Why? Because SCI Fayette is a prison in western Pennsylvania that was built on a toxic coal ash waste dump, which is highly hazardous for the health of people forced to live there. People in the prison, their loved ones, and organizers in solidarity have been fighting against these toxic conditions for over a decade with no movement to address the problem.
How You Can Help!
1. Send an email (see sample below) to: [email protected]
Email subject line: Urging the DOC and Gov. Shapiro to close SCI Fayette
In your own words tell them to shut down SCI-Fayette and tell them why.
2. When you’re done, leave a voicemail at 888-316-8950 to tell the DOC that you believe SCI-Fayette should be closed down!
3. PLEASE SHARE THIS MESSAGE WITH FOLKS WHO ARE WILLING TO HELP AND YOUR LEGISLATOR, TOO!

SONGS FROM THE HOLE
At 15, he took a life. Three days later, his brother’s life was taken. A moving chronicle of forgiveness, family, and the transformative power of art, SONGS FROM THE HOLE weaves music and storytelling into an innovative documentary visual album. Through clear-eyed narration and lyrical journal entries, incarcerated musician James “JJ’88” Jacobs reveals his innermost struggles as a person who has both committed and experienced violent harm. While serving a double-life prison sentence, he searches for healing and peace as he comes of age in this documentary-musical odyssey composed behind bars.
In a unique creative process director Contessa Gayles (The Feminist on Cellblock Y, Founder Girls) collaborated with protagonist/writer JJ’88 and producer/music producer richie reseda to interweave the collective storytelling of the film’s non-fiction participants, with imagined memories, dreams and spiritual dialogues set to JJ’88’s original music. The result is a powerful mix of truth-telling and dreaming that reveal the potential for healing and liberation within us all.
