Happy Juneteenth! 🌻

Juneteenth (June 19th, 1865) marks the day enslaved people in Texas finally received word of their freedom - two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation. It’s a day of joy, remembrance, and celebration of Black liberation.

This season, we’re honoring the spirit of Juneteenth by shining a light on the Black entrepreneurs who are tending to the earth the same way they tend to their communities. From farmers markets to urban gardens, these business owners are putting fresh food, flowers, and life back into our neighborhoods.

🍄We are currently adding a new team member to our retail store. City Planter is a Philly-based, family-owned business specializing in the sale of Indoor and Outdoor Plants and other plant-related items.

🪴We are a super-small team, so working well with others AND being self-motivated is essential. Familiarity with Square/POS System, Squarespace website platforms and Social Media Engagement are a plus.

🪴This position requires strong customer service and problem solving skills, confidence with interacting with customers in person, on the phone and online. The other main component of this position is keeping the plants alive and happy, and making sure that the store looks amazing so an eye for merchandising and knowledge of plant care is essential.

🌱You MUST be available to work ONE-weekend shift per week (Saturdays)and days leading up to major holidays.

🍄‍🟫Skills/Qualifications:

🌱Extensive knowledge of plants and plant care. Both indoor/tropical and outdoor plants is required Retail experience is necessary-customer service, merchandising, and sales is essential
☘️Must be able to lift and carry at least 50lbs (plants and
pots are heavy!)
🌵Knowledge of POS Systems (we use Square) and Social Media Platforms
🌴Strong work ethic, ability to multitask and be self-directed
🌳Creative eye for merchandising and creating viable, beautiful plantings both with indoor and outdoor plants.
🌺At the moment we are looking to fill a part time schedule of 2 days per week with the possibility of picking up additional days in the future. Right now, the gaps in our schedule are Friday and Saturday (manditory)

This Sunday, February 22nd, City Planter will be closing at 4:00pm in order to prep for Flower Show load-in on Monday. We will reopen on Tuesday. Hopefully, normal hours.

💐(That means we will be closed on Monday, February 23 too). 💐

We love participating in the Flower Show, we have had a booth in the Marketplace every year since 2010.

The Philadelphia Flower Show is the largest and longest-running horticultural show in the nation. It is a top destination for plant lovers. The Flower Show is the single largest fundraiser for PHS's Philadelphia Green programs, which promote gardening AND benefit gardeners throughout the city.
