Darrah Lashley is a versatile actor, filmmaker and singer whose career in independent cinema stretches back to 2009. As a dedicated student of the craft, she recently studies the Meisner Technique at Playhouse West - Philadelphia. In 2022, Darrah made her writing debut with Lifeless, a somber drama in which she also starred as the lead - and which proudly opened that year’s Playhouse West-Philadlephia Film Festival.

Beyond acting, Darrah has gained hands-on experience in virtually every department, from assistant director (AD), and assistant camera (AC) to director of photography (DP). Though she loves performing, she just as equally loves being behind the camera. She has served as DP on five short films and looks forward to continuing to expand her cinematographic portfolio in the years ahead. Outside of film, Darrah is also an accomplished singer-songwriter, bringing her lifelong passion for music to every endeavor; including her filmmaking.

Seeking actors for an upcoming drama short shooting early spring in Philadelphia.

Roles Needed:
1. African American female (50+ years old) - Caring mother figure
2. African American female (25-35 years old) - Slender, well dressed and approachable
3. African American male (20-30 years old) - Loving but slightly stern brotherly figure
4. African American male (50+ years old) - Stoic and loving dad.
5. African American male (50+ years old) - Reserved uncle.

Casting actors for ‘Gummy Guilt’, an upcoming drama short scheduled to shoot this spring in Philadelphia.

Logline: Haunted by guilt over her father’s stroke, Nora cuts off her family entirely, retreating into silence and shame. Now, with a surprise family cookout planned in his honor, she has to face judgments she can no longer outrun.

These roles are unpaid. Meals will be provided and actors will receive clips for their reel.

Characters:

Clyde (50s+, male, African-American), Nora’s father. He had a stroke several months ago and walks (upright) with a cane. Before the stroke, he rode motorcycles. He's warm with a playful sense of humor and loves his daughter deeply.

Isha (50s+, female, African-American), Nora’s mother. She has a subtly dark sense of humor and her own way of doing things. She loves her family and always wants them to make amends.

Lena (25-30, female, African-American), Nora’s cousin. She’s happy, approachable, successful, slender - everything Nora feels she isn’t. She isn’t insensitive, but she is blind to Nora’s perspective.

Reese (20s, male, African-American), Nora’s brother. He’s adopted the “man of the home” mentality, and has been holding the family together especially since Clyde’s stroke. Reese has a big heart and is more concerned and hurt by Nora’s absence.

Uncle Vince (50s, male, African-American) is a quiet man who prefers to keep to himself. A bit hen-pecked by his wife Jo-Ann. He stays in the background but finds his own ways to be involved in the party fiasco that is going on. *Actors auditioning for this role might want to consider incorporating an activity in their audition tape - something Uncle Vince might be doing at a family cookout - can be mimed without props.*
