Readership
“They sound like… I don’t know. I haven’t listened to them yet. I think they’re some kind of music." Philadelphia. West Chester. South Jersey.
Songs and stories by Adrian, Gabe, Greg, and Matt.
New music from Readership in 2026? Could it happen? You can probably bet on it online somewhere.

Ah, New Yorker Cow. The graphic from our first T-shirt, long sold out from its initial run of exactly one million shirts. I thought it was self-explanatory but the number of confused looks I got from this one at the ol’ band merch table always baffled me. THEY’RE EATING THE COW, PEOPLE! Oh well, okay. —AMM

Please enjoy these “professional promo shots” I found cleaning up the old Google Drive. I guess this was 2015? This was the kind of high art that sent our first single “Page” to listeners across the globe, or, at least, to that one person in Indonesia that has streamed Readership since day one.

It’s all relative, but this is hard at work for us. Will these songs ever come out? There’s a non-zero chance!

“Holiday from You”
We had a practice coming up this week, and Gabe commented, “we should make a Christmas album,” which was pretty funny for a group that has managed one song per year since 2020. I shot back, “hey, I wrote a Christmas song once! I played it at the North Star with Jon Z in 2013!” So we got together and played it for an hour and just recorded it live. Happy holidays and whatever! —AMM/Readership

“Harriet Wheeler”
In 2016 Stranger Things came out and I thought, “wow, this is all just nostalgia bait, and people love this sh*t!” so I sat down and wrote this song in like 10 minutes. I was writing a hundred songs a year around this time so Readership passed on the song, probably sounded a bit too much like our prior band Trackjackets. 2018 I did a side project called Kensington Yacht Club, and we did this one then, but it was ludicrous speed and while the guys in that band made it their own, they really did not fully grasp that the song should just be chock full of nostalgia, paraphrase, and plagiarism lyrically and musically. Fast forward to 2023 and Matt was on leave from Readership for a bit and we needed some low-hanging fruit to work on as a 3-piece, so we resurrected it. But as always in the 2020s, it took us way too long to complete, and Matt came back and added a bunch of stuff and then another year went by before it got mixed, and here it is. So in the end, it took 8 years to release a song that took 10 minutes to write.
Happy Halloween annual single??? Available where music exists.
—Adrian
PS: Reading, Writing, and Arithmetic is a contender for all-time greatest record. I love Harriet Wheeler and proposed naming a child after her, but the request was denied.
