I had a traumatic amputation at the age of four. I have recently become active in the sports of running and triathlons which has developed my desire to have others enjoy it with me. I am also completing my residency at this time to become a certified prosthetist/orthotist. My wife Sarah and I enjoy running and cycling together several times a week. This race started with an excellent open water swim, nice and calm with a temp of 69 degrees. I felt strong coming out of the water. 5 miles into the bike a vibration from my front tire derailed me. A tire change later I was back up and rolling. The run course was great, flat running = speed. Overall a great day and a fun race nonetheless.
I had the awesome opportunity to participate at The Challenged Athletes Foundation Para-triathlon camp this past weekend. What an amazing camp, with great coaches, mentors and fellow athletes. Many new friendships were developed!

The Challenged Athlete Foundation will be opening their application period in September and it will run through December. CAF offers grants for athletes to get adaptive equipment such as running blades, racing chairs, hand bikes, etc. If you know anyone that may be interested, let me know. -Matt
