We try to accommodate Graduate students who would like to pursue teaching in higher ed through our TA positions. Not only do they co-teach with the professors, but they also conduct a series of supplemental workshops for the undergraduate students. This term, one of our TA’s will lead the seniors through the best professional practices when they graduate and become professional designers. Graduate students work with the faculty on a three-semester long course, where they propose either a business idea or conduct research on a design topic of their choosing. MFA students in the Graphic & Interactive Design program explore new ways of creating a game or a toy, whether it is analog, digital, or a little of both. The project gives students an opportunity to “play” with new technologies, new forms and dive into uncharted territory. All the while, creating something that is feasible to make and educational for the target audience. Scroll through to see some amazing past student projects!

Every year the MFA Grads get the pleasure to partner with the amazing folks over at St James School , located in here in Philadelphia. The Tyler Design MFA students work with the admin and faculty at St. James School to use design to help them address their educational needs. Meet first-year grad student, Yongxin Wen . She comes to Tyler all the way from Shenyang, China. She loves Japanese animation and story-telling. While studying in , she plans to focus on illustration, publication, and interactive design. After graduation, Yongxin wants to become a freelance game designer, specifically character design. Welcome to Tyler, Yongxin!

Meet our new MFAs! Next up is Evan Bailey .tanical, who comes to us from Portland, Oregon. His background is in Printmaking and as a result is inspired by analog techniques when it comes to Graphic Design. His goal is to mold to these two practices, while he is here at Tyler. He’s especially interested in the relationship between environmental design and typography. We’re stoked to have Evan in our 2021 cohort!

             

We had the pleasure to hear from alumni, Andrea Pippins who gave out some incredible advice as well as sharing her incredible illustrations. All of the grads were left very inspired!

              

Critique time in Thesis class! is working on an interactive animated wall graphic using projection mapping inspired by the Hungry Ghost Festival. Can’t wait to see it finished.
