Happy Juneteenth! 🖤❤️💚

On this day in 1865, Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, delivering the news that 250,000 enslaved people in the state were free, more than TWO years after the Emancipation Proclamation was first signed. Today we honor that moment and all those who lived it.

We celebrate because freedom is worth celebrating, and we stay committed because we know freedom is never finished — we aren't truly free until we are all free. Happy Freedom Day. ✊🏾

Supporting q***r people opens your heart and makes you more fully human. When we choose to love without conditions, we keep our hearts soft and that softness is a gift to everyone around us.

In a world that often defines who belongs and who doesn't, the radical act is to extend God's love to all people, without exception. When we see people living as their full selves, we witness the wide array of beauty that is within creation and within humanity. And something powerful happens: their courage invites us to live more fully as ourselves, too.

We love seeing who people were created to be, made in the image and likeness of God. This Pride Month, we are grateful for every difference we see in our community, here in Kensington and around the world. Our differences are not obstacles, they are gifts that teach us more about each other and about our Creator. 🏳️‍🌈

It's almost our library's birthday!

Over the past year, this space has become a welcoming hub for learning, connection, creativity, and community. Thanks to the support of neighbors, local partners, volunteers, and friends like you, we have been able to create a place where people of all ages can gather, read, learn, and grow together.

This month we are reminded that one of the most beautiful parts of this community we are building is the way people are encouraged to show up fully as themselves. At The Simple Library, we believe that who you are is not something to hide, it is a gift to be shared with the world. Our faith teaches us to love deeply, care for our neighbors, and create spaces where people are welcomed with dignity, joy, and compassion.

We are so happy to be a space where any and everyone can feel welcomed exactly as they are and see themselves reflected on the shelves, in the stories we share, and in the community we are building together!

Any guesses why?

We have had a bit of a problem with rats eating our plant starts. We know they are going to be delicious, but we want a chance to taste them, so we are hoping for the best from this new system!

Everything was growing beautifully, but alas, we start again. Follow along to see what grows from under those crates.

Our gorgeous hive is BUZZING!

We got a brand new set up for our bees this year, thanks to a few neighbors who are letting us borrow all the necessary equipment!

Our bees were delivered and only a few tested their skill of stinging.

They seem pretty happy here in Kensington, which means we should have a pretty great growing and harvesting season!

Our sweet friend came to the library and read a chapter a day!

Twins by Varian Johnson, is a story about two sisters who being to grow apart to seek their own identity and learn to work through change.

If you want to donate to our Yoto player library our older kids would really appreciate it!
