West Philly, y’all showed up.

A few months ago, Senator Vincent Hughes Citizens for Vincent Hughes put out a challenge:

“Can y’all help me get the brothers more involved in early literacy and education?”

Today at Bluford Elementary, we answered that challenge.

Today was our 2nd Fathers event in West Philly.

Over 40 dads came out.

More than 20 fathers signed up to become part of the very first Better Fathers Coalition (BFC) — the Bluford Chapter.

This ain't just another meeting.

This is fathers stepping up the same way we step up for sports.

We met a pilot. A plumber. Mentors. Coaches. Community leaders. Men with real skills and real experiences who are ready to pour into our children and support their school.

From career days and safe corridors to mentoring, literacy events, father engagement, and helping create a stronger school culture — these dads are ready to lead.

The power has always been in the community.

The power has always been in the men.

Today we simply brought them together.

Big shoutout to Senator Vincent Hughes, the Bluford staff, and every father who took the first step.

The first Better Fathers Coalition is officially born.

And West Philly... we're looking for ONE MORE SCHOOL in Senator Hughes' district to launch a second chapter for the 2026-27 school year.

🎤 Join Us for a Powerful Night at Temple University!

We’re inviting our community, friends, and especially all our 1990s Temple folks to come through for a special evening celebrating literacy, community, and the work we’re building with FathersRead365.

📍 Walk Auditorium – Ritter Hall Annex, Temple University

The evening will feature a special 20-minute preview clip of the documentary Reading is Love, executive produced by Brent Johnstone and Akeith Staples, both proud Temple alumni.

This documentary highlights the powerful connection between fathers, families, and literacy, and the movement we’re building through FathersRead365.

We’re also excited to have Bunmi Samuels serving as the moderator for the evening, guiding what promises to be an inspiring conversation.

This will be a celebration of:

🎬 A preview of the Reading is Love documentary
