It’s not that White Male politicians are by a rule mediocre and corrupt. It’s just that our implicit bias as White ppl has inclined us to go back to the White Male “well” too many times instead of giving candidates of other races and genders a chance to lead, and we have mediocre and corrupt leaders from scraping the bottom of that well.
Think about it: if you can only pick leadership from 15% of the population, you are not only failing to utilize 85% of the available leaders, you are also getting VERY subpar leaders once you get past the dozen or so who are the best of that 15%.
Zohran Mamdani is showing us what can be possible when we give everyone - not just White men - a chance to lead. Mayor Mamdani is brilliant, culturally diverse, and impartial. He is not beholden to ancestors embedded in the corruption of American capitalism, or to funders from that same oligarchy. Because he is not beholden to capitalists, he steers his administration toward policy that benefits everyone, not just billionaires.
As Chris Rock said in 2004, “a Black C student can’t even become a manager at McDonald’s…but a White C student just happens to be the President of the United States of America!”
When we address our own implicit bias, we will get more highly qualified, less corrupt leaders because we are drawing leadership from our entire population, and not just those who we are not scared of.
Thanks for tuning in to my first remix lol. Peace & love and blessings to you all 🙏🏼
Full circle moment: When I started teaching drumline @ Mansion, Germantown, and Kensington High Schools in 2003, every student wanted to learn the beats from ‘s debut album - beats from “What We Do” and “Flipside” and more!! ‘s collabs with Free, and Chris & Neef - The Young Gunz - were the hottest tracks out in Philly and the whole city was filled with pride that their best MCs had been elevated to Hiphop prominence on the biggest stage. What an amazing time to be a hiphop fan and music teacher in Philly!! 🤯
So for , learned the beats to “What We Do” and “Flipside”, played em on loop on our corner at Norris Square Park, and let Free know through our friends and that we wanted to pay tribute to a true Philly legend & icon. Sure enough, Free pulled up and rocked out with us!! He took pictures with the team and offered Mad Beatz’ the chance to perform at his festival on August 1.
What an amazing, full circle experience with an amazing artist who inspired students 23 years ago and again today. Thank you so much Freeway for making time to inspire us!!

One of the highlights of my annual trip to Dayton is feeling the energy and joy in the lot crowds on finals night. It’s so dope being part of moments like these that come around only once per year, when each finalist ensemble has one more chance to be appreciated for:
🥵 Countless hours spent at home and in a gym perfecting 8 minutes of music and movement, and
💡 Brilliant compositions by & others
This kind of energy only comes from thousands of percussionists, actively marching as well as alumni, who know what it takes to play at the highest level and want to make sure all the performers know it!
really had an exceptional crowd that felt like a family, not just fans. It was a privilege to be part of the last time they would warm up to play their incredible 2026 show. Thanks so much !!
fam threw down one of the smoothest multi-beat warmups in the lot yesterday. Best wishes to them as well as all other finalists today!!
