Turns out running 50 miles on trails can do a number on your toes. Who knew 🤷‍♂️😂

One area that I’ve been working on in the ultra space is my time at aid stations, specifically at crewed aid stations. For Dirty German 50 miler, I developed a plan for my crew to be able to see me every 7-9 miles. My goal was to be in an out within a minute and to spend essentially 0 time at uncrewed aid stations.

It is so easy to eat up so much time at aid stations during ultras. Even though I was unable to hold my goal pace this past weekend, I was able to minimize the miss by sticking to my crewing plan.

My efficiency at aid stations was a major factor in my 3rd place AG finish this weekend.

During ultras it’s common to “go to a dark place”, lots of us call this “the pain cave”. It’s not a matter of if, but when will I get there during races like this. I welcome this place of discomfort because this is where the growth happens. It’s here that I prove I am stronger than my mind & my body is capable of more. Time spent here willingly is practice for the times in life where involuntary suffering will occur.

Work trip during a taper is actually kind of a cheat code. Can’t wait to let it rip on Saturday.

The race starts at 7am and the winner can finish 10 miles in 45 minutes before the final corrals even start the race!
