Local 5 is out in front of Haddonfield HS this week bannering against South Jersey elevator. Stop out and show your support for Union Labor as we continue to protect our area standards and wages.

Orientation Night at Local 5. With Local 5’s state of the art classrooms, welding facilities, fully functioning escalator, and elevator, Local 5 will be training our apprentices like no one else in the country. By using both computer based and hands on learning, our apprentices will be more prepared to become mechanics than any other time in our Local’s history. Good luck Brothers and Sisters, make our Union PROUD!!

WE ARE…..SCABS!! Penn State is constructing a new $68 million dollar building at the Penn State Abington Campus. Many of the building trades have been locked out of this project, including Local 5, and we have been on site 5 days a week bannering alongside the other trades. Brothers and Sisters if you’re in the area feel free to stop by and say hi or better yet, come out and join us for a day in solidarity. Stay Union Strong Brothers and Sisters, UNITED WE STAND, DIVIDED WE BEG!!!

At tonight’s meeting, Local 5 welcomed four new Brothers to the best Union in the country. Two of the newest members, Mike Dilanzo and Kevin Taylor, have deep family roots with Local 5. One new member, Najee Green, was an IBEW apprentice who decided to choose a career as an Elevator Constructor over another trade. While the last new member, Henry Morgan, was recently organized from SJ elevator. Henry will now earn higher wages, better health benefits, receive a better education at Local 5’s brand new state of the art training center, and earn a retirement package that will allow him the peace of mind to enjoy retirement with his family. Congratulations Brothers and welcome to best Local in the country!

Directorate of Construction Scott Ketchum. If you are currently using this method on your job site, please stop and notify the hall immediately. Please take particular notice to the mention of Article XXVIII Par 4 of the standard agreement concerning your safety rights on the job. Work safe Brothers and Sisters.

Out for a walk this morning with 300+ of our Local 5 Brothers and Sisters…The officers of Local 5 would like to thank the 300+ members that showed up this morning at 5:00 am in 30 degree weather to walk with us in a showing of strength and solidarity. Today we protected our work and accomplished our goal because our members chose to stand up and fight back. If unions are only as strong as their members, this proves once again that Local 5 is the strongest Local in the country. Thank you again Brothers and Sisters, be proud and stay LOCAL 5 STRONG!

Gabe Pizzo(Schindler) and Mike Bodtman(Kone) showing off their pipe bending skills in the overhead of their latest jobs. Mike is a brand new mechanic and is showing a ton of pride in his work already. He and his apprentice, John Grey are doing an amazing job on these Kone overheads. Gabe has recently passed his test and is waiting to get put up. His mechanic, Executive Board member Gerry Kerr, is preparing Gabe to be a mechanic and let him loose on the Schindler overhead. Gabe continues to get better every job and he is proving he will be ready when his time comes. As young mechanics, often times Brothers and Sisters think they need to go fast to prove themselves. THIS is how young mechanics prove themselves. Installing a quality job that they can be proud of and a job Local 5 can be proud of. There will be hiccups along the way, but both of these Brothers are absolutely on the right path. Great jobs Brothers, you both make this Local Union Proud!

Local 5 would like to welcome its newest organized members to the Union as they were sworn in at last nights Union meeting. Included in the swearing in ceremony last night was Kinetic Elevator owner Justin Flumer. Justin was a former DE Elevator employee and has done an incredible job so far of securing Union jobs for Local 5 members in our area. Everyone pictured was organized from either DE Elevator or South Jersey elevator over the past several months. As Local 5 Brothers, they will be entitled to the highest Union wages of any trade in our area, phenomenal medical benefits, a retirement plan that includes a pension, annuity, and a 401k. This will give them the safety and piece of mind for themselves and their families moving forward. These new members will also have access to the best Elevator trade education system in the country and a brand new state of the art education facility which will include a MRL elevator, escalator, holed hydro, welding labs, and interactive classrooms to further their knowledge of the trade.
