This Saturday we’re teaming up with Don’t Tell Comedy for a night of laughs and fun. Don’t Tell Comedy’s performances will be a secret location in the Rittenhouse section of Philadelphia at 8pm (the address is emailed to ticket holders at 8:00 am on the day of the event), where a portion of ticket sales will be donated to the Homeless Advocacy Project to support our work. Wednesdays in August we will be at Broad Street Love from 11:30 – 2pm for our weekly legal clinics, where you can meet with a member of our legal team face to face.

Yesterday, some of HAP’s staff and interns made a trip down to the Barnes Foundation to see the Freedom Dreams exhibit! Freedom Dreams is a look at Black history and experience through a series of film and video installations that were both striking and thought provoking.

This excursion is part of a series of events the DEI committee has initiated to explore Philadelphia’s cultural fabric alongside more traditional trainings.

The visit to the Barnes was an amazing opportunity for team building and experiencing art in the city. Thanks to all who could attend!

HAP would like to acknowledge the service and celebrate the retirement of our former Children, Youth & Families Project Director Laura Kolb. Laura served as our CYF Director for more than 20 years where she worked with a wide array of clients whose lives she changed. Last week, our Legal and Advocacy Director attended the 2026 National Conference on Ending Homelessness in Washington, D.C. The conference featured discussions and presentations on best practices and advocacy strategies to prevent and end homelessness. Nancy reports that it was “a great opportunity to connect with other advocates, learn about how other communities are addressing common issues, and strengthen Homeless Advocacy Project's ability to advance systemic change. It was an inspiring and productive conference, and I’m grateful I had the chance to attend.”

We are thrilled to announce our 2026 Annual Benefit! On October 28, we will return to our friends at the African American Museum in Philadelphia for a night of networking, food, and fun. The benefit begins at 6:00 p.m. and ends at 8:30 p.m. During the evening, attendees can participate in our basket raffle as well as our 50/50 raffle.

The theme for the evening will be “Advocating for a Better Future,” celebrating our work to forge a more just, safe, and stable future for people experiencing or at imminent risk of homelessness in Philadelphia. Part of the program for the evening will honor champions who make this work possible.

A few weeks ago our Senior Staff Attorney Pat Malley and one of our legal interns Kyra Lauersdorf visited JEVS. Here were Kyra's thoughts on the experience:

"Pat and I had a wonderful time speaking with community members at the JEVS Work Ready Community Resource Fair! We spoke with attendees about our organization and distributed resources concerning the most common legal issues that unhoused and housing insecure individuals face. We also spoke at length with several attendees who raised specific legal issues, and it was incredibly rewarding to be able to hear their stories and provide support. We are very grateful to our hosts at JEVS Work Ready for putting this opportunity together!"
