This Saturday, meet us at The Rest, a free community event presented by Assata's House (). Designed to honor and support Black mothers, Black, Indigenous, and people of color femmes, caregivers, and service providers, this event offers a dedicated space for rest, rejuvenation, and self-care, acknowledging the unique challenges faced by those who provide care and support to others. Through restorative healing practices and a supportive community environment, we aim to empower attendees with tools for personal wellness and connection.
What to Expect: Enjoy healing practices such as massage, reiki, acupuncture, and a group Reiki teach-in to explore energy healing techniques you can use at home. Cozy up in our quiet rest spaces, bring a book, your favorite sweatshirt, or something to write with, and connect with others. A family-friendly zone will be available to create an inclusive environment where caregivers and families can participate together, ensuring all feel welcome and supported.
This event is organized by Assata's House, an independent initiative led by curator Raylá White-Spraggins, and is co-sponsored by PFP and Black Lives Matter Philly.

Join us for a celebration and work-in-progress preview of Nadia Hironaka's film Imaginary Lines, featuring a performance by son jarocho collective Son Revoltura!
Imaginary Lines is an animated film created in collaboration with artists, filmmakers, storytellers, and activists working with Philadelphia’s Latin American immigrant communities. Connecting the journeys of immigrants with the journeys of monarch butterflies, the film uplifts individual stories as well as the shared experiences that drive people across borders. The project was developed through a series of interviews, art workshops, and writing circles, hosted as part of Hironaka’s 2022 Leeway Foundation Media Artist + Activist Residency with the Philadelphia Folklore Project.
The Imaginary Lines Collective includes Hironaka’s longtime collaborator Matthew Suib, artist and activist Ileana Doble Hernandez, and writer, storyteller, and interdisciplinary artist Eric César Morales. The Collective worked closely with animator Emily Kobert to produce the first chapter of this episodic film.
Imaginary Lines would not be possible without the generous and creative contributions of documented and undocumented participants from Central and South America and the Caribbean.
