Many antibiotics have historically been discovered through years of trial and error.
Penn researchers developed ApexGO, a new AI-powered system that improves promising antibiotic candidates step by step.
In laboratory testing, 85% of the AI-generated molecules stopped bacterial growth, and 72% outperformed the original peptides they were designed from.

Where does a master’s in computer science fit into the current labor market?
The World Economic Forum has periodically surveyed over 1,000 executives globally across industries to identify major shifts in global labor markets. More than 70% of respondents believe that AI and big data, networks and cybersecurity, and technological literacy are the top three skills on the rise between now and 2030, with predicted increased importance for each of these sets of skills.
As AI ignites role changes and reskilling, employees must stay ahead of the curve and invest in learning and development to maintain marketability.
The online Master of Applied Science in Computer Science (MAS-CS) at Penn Engineering allows professionals without a computer science background to build technical foundations and supplement their core classes with concentrations in Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Engineering Entrepreneurship, and Software Systems.
As AI increases the need for subjective decision-making and judgment skills, the MAS-CS Online prepares our students/graduates to work collaboratively, assess efficiency, and own innovative creations.
Our fall 2026 deadline is coming up in less than two weeks on May 18th. Apply today!
