It is both bittersweet and uplifting to have completed this little series of four created in the same limited palette. 😁

I’m definitely enjoying using limited palette in this current small series of warm, analogous colors. 😊. Discovering that color is another important element in expressing mood/ emotion/ energy.

“Calling up Spirit “
The second piece of four in the warm colors; analogous group.
14 x 11 x 1.5 on wood.

I have been taking some quiet time in the studio, working on a few pieces for the past weeks, based on studying the color wheel, deliberately choosing colors before I begin, and making many sample colors in a sketchbook based on my chosen color grouping. This method is so great for me to learn how colors perform and interact with one another. I decided my first group of 4 paintings would all be from 4 analogous colors on the wheel. ( colors that are next to one another. ) I’ve used yellow -orange, orange, red-orange ,and red.
This first one is “Spoon Full of Sugar “ painted on heavyweight paper, with acrylic paint, then mounted on cradled birch panel. 14 x 11 x 1.5.

A new and improved version of “Aloft. “
Slide 1 is new; slide 2 was the original. It was calling out to me that it wasn’t quite right. Something was off. Turns out a few things were “off. “
So I rotated the piece vertically; then began working on the composition for a better flow. Being careful not to lose the feeling of depth, and interesting shapes… I added quite a a bit more of the light blue; a calming mid tone value.
Hope you can see and appreciate the difference! Enjoy!

Just completed these brightly feathered “Faithful Friends. “Makes you wonder what they are up to!
These troublemakers evolved as I was creating an abstract mixed media piece. Which does happen at times… that’s what keeps it exciting. 😂

A little Abstract Vignette.
I decided to switch things up a little bit; and remove one larger painting to make room for 4 of my newer ones!
IMO they look better together.
They bring out the best in each other!
Stay tuned for more fun “littles. “

Limited palette, of Dark Violet, Yellow Ochre and black and White. With some added print collage for interest.

I’ve been reviewing the videos and notes from , the 4 week online color course I took with and . There was so much fantastic information/ content to learn in a brief amount of time; that I’m taking my time , now to digest it all, and have been re-working the paintings that were a part of each week’s exercises.
I’ve been working on a couple at a time and then mounting them on cradled birch panels when complete.
This one’s “Poker Face. “
A low key painting using Deep Violet, Yellow Ochre, Black and White.

I’m so excited to be posting about this 11 x 14 abstract on cradled wood panel!
For this piece I used a limited palette of 2 shades of yellow. A warm, and a cool. Plus black and white.
As I frequently make myself egg drop soup with baby spinach leaves and Nutritional yeast for lunch… I was carrying my bowlful into the studio when I suddenly realized the similarities between my painting in progress ( see second pic) and my lunch!
So I snapped a pic, got a good laugh, and of course had to title this one…
