You're probably already familiar with the iconic landmark at the entrance to Philadelphia's Chinatown, but did you know it's the first Chinese gate in the U.S. made entirely with traditional materials shipped from Asia?

Designed by Philadelphia architect Sabrina Soong, the Friendship Gate was erected in 1984 by master artisans from China. It was born out of a Sister City agreement between Philadelphia and Tianjin in China and aimed to attract more people to Philadelphia’s Chinatown.

Today, it stands as a symbol of heritage, community, and collaboration across cultures.

On June 19, 1865, Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to enforce the Emancipation Proclamation, which freed enslaved people in the United States. It took more than two years for the news to make its way to Texas, the most remote state of the former Confederacy. Though that day marked a turning point for civil rights in the United States, the fight for racial justice and equity continues to this day.

Today, we celebrate the progress we've made since that crucial turning point in our history and reflect on how we can continue creating a more equitable world for all.

Because none of us are home until all of us are home.

As the birthplace of our nation, Philadelphia is a city of firsts. From major historical turning points, including the signing of the constitution and the creation of the first American flag, to festive frivolities turned time-honored traditions, like the first Thanksgiving parade, Philadelphia has long been a place where bold new ideas can blossom.

Project HOME wants to build on that legacy by making Philadelphia the first major city to end chronic street homelessness.

The annual Point-In-Time Count is about more than just data—it's about dignity. During the count, hundreds of outreach workers gather to ensure every person experiencing homelessness feels seen and valued. The information they gather has real impact on how local and federal leaders respond to the housing crisis.

Roots and Branches: We All Count | Project HOME On a quiet February night, I joined more than 200 outreach workers and volunteers as they gathered across Philadelphia for the annual Point‑in‑Time

The city has declared a code red from now through Friday, June 12. There are resources available for people who need help staying cool, hydrated and safe through these extreme temperatures.

Anyone who sees someone outside who needs help, call the 24/7 homeless outreach hotline at 215-232-1984 for resources and support.

Philly has a unique prom culture. In Project HOME CEO Donna Bullock's words, "Here, prom isn’t just a dance. It’s a declaration."

In a recent op-ed for the Inquirer, Donna encouraged this season's graduates to take that spirit of bold creativity as they head into their futures.

Last Thursday, 400 advocates, leaders, and friends gathered for Bring Philly HOME, presented by Penn Medicine and hosted by the Rising Leaders Committee. Thanks to your generosity, compassion, and commitment, we exceeded our fundraising goal, raising critical resources that will help create pathways to housing, healthcare, opportunity, and stability for our neighbors experiencing homelessness.
