By HelpfulHannah (Hannah Williams)
People say the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, and when I look in the mirror today, I see Ada looking back at me. My mother was a 4'10" piece of dynamite—an orphan who grew up in the Rebecca Kratz home and went on to become the "Doris Day of Philadelphia." She was a salesgirl at Blum’s downtown by day and a jazz-singing powerhouse by night.
Mom was a woman ahead of her time. In an era when most mothers stayed home, she was "off and running" as a working mom. She was a master of reinvention; I’ll never forget playing in the driveway and seeing a glamorous blonde walk up, only to realize my red-headed mother had changed her look again! I would beam with pride every time.
A Life Set to Music
Though she made sure I had a musical background—mercifully swapping my accordion for a violin—her greatest gift wasn't an instrument; it was a philosophy. She taught me that life is inherently good. She believed there is good and bad in everyone, but your job is to find the good. If you can’t find enough of it? It’s okay to just walk away.
Some of my fondest memories are of singing "You Are My Sunshine" and "Get Happy" in the car with my sister, Sarae. Mom spent her free time singing at VA hospitals and institutions, always believing that you can’t be unhappy when you’re singing or bringing joy to others.
Keeping the Dance Alive
While I didn't inherit her "Doris Day" vocals, she recognized my talent for dancing early on. "Keep doing it, Hannah," she’d say. "It makes you happy." She was right. To this day, there is nothing I love more than a Saturday night spent listening to a live band and letting loose on the dance floor.
When people tell me, "For a second, I thought you were your mother," I take it as the highest compliment. Ada taught me to smile, to work hard, and to find the sunshine in every day. I carry that spirit with me every time I help a new family find their own "happy place" here in Philly, Bucks, or Montgomery County.
This is my entry to the 2026 May Challenge," The Women Who Shapen Us."

When you’re selling your home in the Philadelphia, Bucks, or Montgomery area, you’re not just selling a structure—you’re selling a lifestyle. As an expert agent, I always tell my clients: if the kitchen is the heart of the home, the primary bedroom is its soul. It needs to be more than just a place to sleep; it needs to be a sanctuary where potential buyers can immediately see themselves relaxing at the end of a long day.
To create that "perfect" living space, the first step is always decluttering. We want the room to feel spacious and airy. But the real magic happens when you focus on the bed. Think of the bed as the centerpiece of an art gallery. One of my favorite tips for sellers is to invest in brand-new bedding.
Why New Bedding? It also has a clean, fresh smell, which is very important
You might think your current duvet is fine, but there is nothing quite like the crisp, clean look of high-quality, neutral linens. I recommend a plush, white, or light gray comforter with plenty of layers.
The Texture: Add a chunky knit throw at the foot of the bed, or even a faux fur
The Pillows: Use a mix of sleeping pillows and decorative shams to create height and depth.
When a buyer walks into a room with a bed that looks like it belongs in a five-star hotel, their shoulders drop. They stop thinking about "sq footage" and start thinking about "sanctuary." They fall in love with the feeling of the home, and that’s when the "For Sale" sign turns into "Sold."
Setting the Scene
Beyond the linens, consider the lighting. Swap out those harsh bulbs for warm, soft light. Clear off the nightstands of everything except a simple lamp and perhaps one small plant or a candle. You want to show them that this room is a place for peace, not for folding laundry or checking emails.
Homeownership is about finding your happy place. By spending a little time and a small investment on fresh linens, you aren't just staging a room—you’re helping a new family envision their first night of peaceful sleep in their new home.
Final HelpfulHannah Tip:
Never underestimate the power of a fresh coat of neutral paint—think soft grays or warm beiges. It covers years of wear and makes the whole room feel and smell brand new.
There You Go, you just transformed that Bedroom into a Dream Room

When I was younger and ready to buy a house, we did not do it alone. My parents and in-laws step in with a small down payment. We'd saved what we could, but it was not enough. Their help made the difference between someday and our keys.
I remember how it felt- not just the relief - but the dignity. We were young, working hard, and someone believed in us enough to believe in our future. That house was more than four walls and a roof. It was stability. It was where we built our family. It was the first step toward financial security.
Years later, life came full circle. My husband and I were fortunate enough to do the same for both our children. We helped them with their down payments so they could buy homes, build equity, and sleep at night knowing they could own their own homes.
Every time I hand keys to a first-time homebuyer, I think about my parents and in-laws and the gift that they gave me, and my heart warms with joy.
Homeownership isn't just a transaction; sometimes it starts with a gift. Sometimes it is a gift passed down from generation to generation. It is not just money; it is not an inheritance; it is a key to happiness that you can share with your family and watch grow in a way you could never have imagined.
