We were proud to attend the closing ceremony for the Acel Moore High School Journalism workshop.

President Nkwa Asonye and other members served as mentors. Sharyn Flanagan was the keynote speaker. A shoutout to Angie Baylock who helped spearhead the program.

This year, the program awarded the first Michael Days Leadership Award to Gabriel Grant, a junior at Girard College. Melanie Burney made the presentation, highlighting Mike’s career and his commitment “to help somebody.” Grant will receive $1,500 when he enrolls in college.

The program was started by NABJ Founder Acel Moore, a former Pulitzer Prize winner and editor and columnist at the Inquirer. His wife Linda Wright Moore, also a journalist, attended the festivities.
Congratulations!

Thank you NABJ Founder Sandra Long for inviting me as a presenter for the 2026 Dow Jones Early Career Training Program on the campus of the University of Maryland. I enjoyed sharing my experiences covering education with the 17 fellows from newspapers around the country. The future of journalism is in great hands.
