A nice article on Inquirer.com on Prep dad Dan Hilferty P '14, '16, Flyers Governor and CEO of Comcast Spectacor. Dan's wife, Joan, recently completed a seven-year term on the Prep's Board of Trustees, and the Hilfertys are generous supporters of their sons' alma mater!

Flyers governor Dan Hilferty was convinced of playoffs by a team star | Opinion And that still wasn't Hilferty's finest moment of the year. Neither was beating Pittsburgh. Clue: It had to do with fans like him.

Today is Juneteenth, the day that commemorates the emancipation of enslaved Black Americans.

As a Jesuit, Catholic school, we affirm the God-given dignity of every person and recognize that freedom and justice are essential to the flourishing of the human family. Juneteenth invites us to remember our nation's history, honor the resilience and contributions of Black Americans, and renew our commitment to building a more just and compassionate world.

Today, we commemorate Flag Day. As Philadelphia's Jesuit High School, we are proud to say that our flag, of course, has local ties. Philadelphia's Betsy Ross is widely credited with sewing the first flag, which was commissioned by the Continental Congress on June 14, 1777. Pennsylvania was the first state in the nation to make it a state holiday in 1937.

The flag was proudly flown during Commencement Exercises (held by incoming Student Council President Jonas Mersch '27 and displayed during the singing of the National Anthem).

On Saturday, 6/13, Jake Braithwaite, S.J. '07 will be ordained to the priesthood at the Fordham University Church. Born and raised in Villanova, he attended the Prep and Fordham, obtaining a bachelor’s degree in business administration. After a short stint on Wall Street, he returned to Fordham, working in development while getting very involved at the Church of St. Ignatius Loyola in Manhattan. The relationships at the parish identified his budding vocation and pushed him to pursue Jesuit life.

After ordination, Jake will serve as a parochial vicar at Saint Ignatius of Loyola Parish in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts.

Jake is the nephew of Prep Director of Dramatics/Engagement Specialist Tony Braithwaite '89 and has remained connected to Cape and Sword Drama Society (SJP), and several students from the club will be in attendance at the Ordination.

In 2023, Jake participated in a roundtable discussion about the Prep and shared his time on a service trip, noting how it defined his experience and brought him closer to God.
