Philadelphia’s drop in gun violence isn’t tied to one solution, but research shows that environmental improvements like brighter streetlights, cleaned-up vacant lots, and community gardens can significantly reduce shootings while strengthening neighborhood connections. Just as important as the physical changes, residents say these efforts build trust, pride, and relationships that help make communities safer.

The Office of Sustainability is seeking 18 community-based organizations to receive $10,000 grants to serve as Climate Resilience Partners. Philadelphia is especially vulnerable to climate impacts. We are seeking community-level partners to help gather resident feedback and shape neighborhood-level strategies that will support an update to the City’s Climate Resilience Plan.

Each organization that applies will nominate a Partner Ambassador. This individual will serve as the main participant and point of contact for a 10-month Climate Resilience Partner Program.

Help shape how our city prepares for hotter summers, stronger storms, and increased flooding.

Today we got our hands in the soil to support The Black Farmers Co-op at the "Girarden", on 42nd & Girard, to show their work towards food sovereignty, land sovereignty, garden education, and environmental justice with FOX29 News. It was a joy to see a multigenerational gathering of community partners who enthusiastically support The Black Farmers Co-op and their mission.

Spent a beautiful day at Mt. Cuba Center - a stunning botanical garden in Deleware dedicated to native plants and ecological conservation. We first met gardener Erin at a community planting day at Rodney Reservoir, and it was such a joy to reconnect and get a behind the scenes tour from her, Horticulture Director George Combs and intern/landscape architecture student Dakota. Thank you all for taking the time to walk us through the details and stories woven into the landscape. We left feeling inspired and grateful.
