Last Thursday, Grand Rounds concluded this year’s Chief Clinic Case Presentations by Dr. William Piwnica-Worms and Dr. Dustin Crystal.

They highlighted complex patient scenarios, shared clinical insights, and discussed practical approaches to managing challenging cases. Thank you both for an excellent presentation and engaging discussion.

This past Saturday, we celebrated our Plastic Surgery Graduation and the accomplishments of our graduating residents! To our phenomenal Chiefs, thank you for your leadership, hard work, and countless contributions to our program. We are incredibly proud of all you have achieved and can’t wait to see the impact you will make in the years ahead.

Penn Plastic Surgery was proud to be represented at this year’s EURAPS meeting in Vienna, Austria.

The division contributed multiple presentations spanning breast reconstruction and abdominal wall reconstruction research, while faculty and trainees engaged with colleagues from around the world in discussions advancing the future of reconstructive surgery.

We are grateful to EURAPS for an outstanding meeting and look forward to continuing these international partnerships in the years ahead.

A huge congratulations and the warmest of welcomes to our new incoming interns who in the last month have graduated medical school, moved across the country to their new homes in Philadelphia, and started their first day of orientation yesterday! We are all looking forward to their first day on the wards on June 20th, where they will join a 70-year legacy of plastic surgery residents stretching back to 1957—now stepping forward as the 70th class of Penn Plastic Surgery.

Faculty, trainees, and investigators gathered this evening for the annual Center for Human Appearance dinner ahead of the 17th Annual CHA Research Conference.

Bringing together experts across plastic surgery, oral surgery, neurosurgery, dermatology, and more, the conference highlights the collaborative research and innovation advancing patient care across Penn and CHOP.

Today’s Grand Rounds featured Chief Clinic Case Presentations by Dr. Elizabeth Malphrus and Dr. Sharbel Elhage.

Through a series of challenging cases, they shared clinical pearls, funny experiences, and practical lessons from training. Thank you both for an engaging discussion and an outstanding educational session.

Dr. Eric Liao delivered an inspiring talk today on bridging the translational gap in pediatric plastic surgery, highlighting the extraordinary growth and impact of the Center for Craniofacial Innovation at CHOP under his leadership. From biobanking and functional genomics to gene-editing and clinical translation, Dr. Liao showcased how thoughtful innovation can reshape the future of craniofacial care.

His vision for the evolving role of the plastic surgeon as both scientist and innovator was compelling, ambitious, and deeply motivating.
