Not exactly my cup of tea musically, but as an indie artist I often share that same level of demoralization.

There are more releases than ever, it is easier to do it from home.... A far cry from when I started out some number of decades ago. 👓

Today, finally, I got back the Re-Cycle license I had wayyyy back (Propellerhead anyone? ...still have the CD installer...that no longer works)

I currently use Logic, which has a function to chop up a sample using the same basic method, and spread the chunks across a midi instrument.

So Reason Studios... they decided to make the latest Re-Cycle version, which all other types of sample transient chopping tools owe their existence to--FREE !!

Glad to see an ex-label cohort from my early days in NYC, Taylor Deupree, getting attention for his minimalist electronic music on his 12k label.

For about a year and a half in the Flatiron district, I worked with Taylor—and more closely with one of his best buds and his ex-bandmate/labelmate, Dietrich Schoenemann, at a different label which I had been signed to in its “EX-form”…..but we won’t get into any of that right now. Suffice to say that one of the former artists on that label become much more prominent at one point than anyone could have expected.

While its unlikely that anyone else from that experience will reach those heights, Taylor has forged through and persevered with his sounds and ideas, garnering a noticeable following.

The recent live performance I feature here is composed of the same musicians that were on the 2024 acoustic remake of his 2002 album “Still.” The remake gained some critical acclaim last year when it was released.
