Pride is Power: The Power of Legacy 🏳️‍🌈

Highlighting Dr. John E. Fryer, a Philadelphia psychiatrist who took real personal risk to speak up about how the medical field was classifying homosexuality as a mental disorder. In 1972, he spoke at the American Psychiatric Association convention under the name “Dr. H. Anonymous,” sharing what it was like to be a gay psychiatrist living with the constant fear of being outed & losing everything.

What he shared helped shift the conversation within the profession and became part of the momentum that led to homosexuality being removed from the DSM in 1973.

No words can fully capture what it feels like to march through this city surrounded by so much joy, resilience & community. All of us at DVLF were extremely grateful to have stood united with the Our Night Out - Philly committee and Independence Business Alliance for the Philly Pride 365 March, and even more grateful for every single person who joined us...

The afternoon carried us to the Parkway, where our board president, Carl Michaels, filled the air with music, creating a soundtrack for an afternoon that celebrated connection & togetherness!
