If you haven't seen the news or weren't able to attend, on Monday we held the groundbreaking for $21.7 million renovation of McPherson Library and Park.
This was a great event where City and local leaders spoke about what they are looking forward to with the completion of the renovation!

Yesterday, we celebrated Mayor Cherelle L. Parker 1,000th day in office and broke ground on a $21.7 million project at McPherson Library and Park.
Last week, we joined the Kensington community, Managing Director Carlton Williams, and Councilmember Quetcy Lozada on a beautiful fall day for a community day and cookout - our way of saying thank you to everyone who volunteered their time and expertise throughout the design process and for their patience as we renovate the library.

What a day at McPherson Square Library in Kensington!
We joined Mayor Cherelle L. Parker, Managing Director Carlton Williams, Councilmember Quetcy Lozada, Impact Services, the Office of Senator Tina Tartaglione, Rep. Jose Giral, the Philadelphia Police Department, the Free Library of Philadelphia and community members to mark the Mayor's 1000th day in office with groundbreaking on a $21.7 MILLION project at the library.

Stories that Inspire Us: The new Carousel House is being designed through an adaptive reuse approach that honors the history of this beloved facility while expanding it to better serve future generations. This renovation is the return of a place that has meant so much to so many. Those who have made wonderful memories at Carousel House have shared them with us.
Willa spent a lot of time at Carousel House's pool. And, with the help of the amazing staff, she was able to not just socialize with other kids with disabilities, but also make a new friend! They remain friends to today, and are looking forward to getting back in the pool!
Back in August, we cut the ribbon at Johnny Sample (Cobbs Creek) Recreation Center, celebrating the completion of a $15 million renovation!
Not only was it a great event, but it was also a great project that included countless meetings with community members to ensure they got a recreation center they deserved.

Come out on Saturday, September 26th, at 9 a.m. as we cut the ribbon to celebrate the completion of the playground at Happy Hollow Recreation Center!
This milestone represents $650,000 of a total $6 million renovation at Happy Hollow. The new playground doesn't just include new equipment but also includes new pavement, lighting, security, and ADA accessibility features to ensure that everyone in the community will have access.
A ribbon-cutting for the entire recreation center will happen early next year!

We’re breaking ground on a major $21.7 million transformation of McPherson Square Library and Park as we celebrate Mayor Cherelle L. Parker’s 1,000th day in office!
Where: McPherson Square Library and Park, 601 E. Indiana Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19134
When: Monday, September 28, 2026, at 12:00 p.m.
This project will transform one of Kensington’s most important community spaces, with major improvements to both the library and surrounding park.
Join Mayor Cherelle L. Parker, Councilmember Quetcy Lozada, Capital Program Office, Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, Free Library of Philadelphia, Impact Services, community partners, and neighbors as we celebrate the start of construction.
Tomorrow, we have a community celebration at McPherson Square Library and Park starting at 3:00 p.m.!
This will be a chance for the community to celebrate what is to come with the $21.7 million investment.
