📣 MUSEUM ACQUISITION – Pentimenti is thrilled to announce the acquisition of Sarah Pater’s “Nine cherries at dusk” by the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia, PA.

Sarah Pater’s paintings explore the subtle value of time, the aesthetics of domestic and work environments, and the in-between spaces of contemporary life where boredom and attention often blur. Her works unfold slowly—both in their making and in their viewing—guided by self-imposed systems that sustain a meditation on stillness, attention, and perception itself. Through recurring motifs such as windows and desks, she creates suspended visual spaces where meaning emerges gradually through repeated, careful observation.

With sincere thanks to Leah Triplett, Curator of Contemporary Art, as well as the Selection Committee and generous patrons. Your support made this acquisition possible, and we are deeply grateful to celebrate Sarah Pater’s first work entering a museum’s permanent collection.

The PAFA museum inspires the public by expanding the stories of American art through its collections, exhibitions, and programs.

Miles to Go Before We Sleep | Solo Exhibition | Humaira Abid

In this exhibition, familiar objects, including clocks, signs, thread, toys, and shoes become metaphors for time, memory, and lived experience. Everyday acts of knitting, reading, mending, parenting, and protesting intersect with broader realities of migration and displacement, connecting intimate personal experiences to larger social and political forces.

“Waves Become Wings”, present the latest in an ongoing evolution of a distinct formal abstract visual language, loosely based on the grid and rooted in philosophy.

“Operating within self-imposed compositional and procedural parameters, these works continue to explore notions that arise from the philosophical concept of principium individuationis, as well as its dissolution, blurring the lines between field and figure, objectivity and subjectivity. Rigid Apollonian systems of order are juxtaposed against Dionysian gestural mark-making, acknowledging the inherent mercurial and chaotic nature of paint itself, and the architecture necessary to constrain it.”

“Time is not simply passing—it is calling us to act.

Each carved clock becomes an archive of moments when ordinary people chose to act. The alarm clock is transformed from a familiar object into both a warning and a wake-up call, preserving moments when voices joined together to challenge injustice and demand change.

These works are not only about protest; they are about responsibility. They ask what we choose to do with the time we are given, and whether silence becomes a choice of its own.

A clock usually measures the passing of time. Here, it asks a different question:
What are we doing with the time we have?”
