F Minus opens a new front in the climate fight: a call for divestment from fossil fuel lobbyists.

The climate and health problems that Microsoft is proposing to solve with AI are being caused, to some degree, by Microsoft lobbyists who also lobby for fossil fuel companies,” said James Browning, Executive Director of F Minus. “As Microsoft’s shareholders consider the risks of its AI contracts with oil and gas companies, they should also consider the risks of hiring lobbying firms who’ve spent years promoting climate denialism on behalf of their oil and gas clients, and who are now waging a campaign of denialism about the environmental impacts of data centers.”
Report: Microsoft’s climate goals undercut by its reliance on fossil fuel lobbyists Microsoft shares lobbyists or lobbying firms with fossil fuel companies in 25 states, according to a new report from F Minus, including companies such as Chevron, Duke Energy, and Baltimore Gas and Electric that are lobbying against holding data centers accountable for their impacts on the environme...

Despite its sustainability messaging – and its place among the world’s largest ESG holdings – Microsoft is a leading AI and cloud provider to the oil and gas industry. It’s a multibillion-dollar business that helps produce more fossil fuels by optimizing exploration, boosting drilling efficiency, and extending the life of oil fields. These technologies drive emissions many times greater than those Microsoft reports – at a scale that threatens all global climate progress. Yet investors and the public are left in the dark.
Microsoft's AI for sustainability vs fossil fuel production | Holly Alpine posted on the topic | LinkedIn While Microsoft promotes their AI to accelerate , it’s simultaneously quietly using that same technology to accelerate fossil fuel production – and now shareholders can vote to expose it. Right now, investors are deciding whether Microsoft should disclose the climate and financial...

Oregon’s public dollars shouldn’t fund pollution.
The Oregon lobbying firm Public Affairs Counsel lobbies for an organization that represents thousands of PERS retirees, Oregon PERS Retirees Inc. (OPRI), while also lobbying on behalf of the Koch Companies, which are one of biggest funders of climate denialism. In 2025, this Koch-friendly firm helped defeat a bill that would have paused PERS investments in fossil fuels.
From our rivers to our retirement funds, Oregonians deserve better than lobbyists who profit from poisoning the planet.
🧼 Let’s clean up Oregon’s politics — not just its water.

Veto of California PFAS ban driven by firms profiting off PFAS clean-up fund
Veto of California PFAS ban driven by firms profiting off PFAS clean-up fund | F Minus Three California lobbying firms who helped convince Gov. Gavin Newsom to veto a bill (SB 682) banning PFAS or “forever chemicals” in some consumer products simultaneously lobbied for the bill on behalf of clients such as municipal water agencies, finds lobbying accountability group F Minus. California just vetoed a major PFAS ban. That means millions of families will keep facing toxic “forever chemicals” in cookware, cleaning products, and packaging.
But here’s the bigger story: the same industries fighting PFAS bans in California are lobbying in Oregon too — often through firms that represent our own public agencies and child-serving nonprofits.
If California can back down, Oregon must stand up.
Clean water, clean kids, and clean lobbying aren’t optional. They’re survival.

🚨Happening tomorrow🚨
Join F Minus for a critical briefing about the hidden web of influence and conflicting loyalties in our political system. We’ll unpack how “double-agent” lobbyists work — the same people representing fossil fuel industries while also advising public health, climate justice, or environmental groups. Why is this dangerous? Because it undermines transparency, empowers polluters, and blurs the lines of accountability.
