My work & my love for the earth are completely intertwined. This spring capsule collection is a celebration of organic shapes, ancient symbols, & textures found in the wild. It brings me joy to make these pieces, & it’s even more meaningful when they are worn & loved by others. Happy Earth Day (everyday)!

Pretty much every park I visit has at least one desire path to follow. It’s fun to trace them, to observe the marks and patterns our lives leave on the landscape.

Scenes from yesterday’s gathering of The Hole Story, where several of us shared our progress, process, and interpretations of holes, portals, and openings. Through knitting, crochet, sewing, solar dyeing, indigo, embroidery, appliqué, sculpture, illustration, and sashiko, we shared how we can translate both beauty and hardship through repair, reuse, and creative practice. As these garments are transformed, WE are transformed. Ideas are percolating. The stories continue. Stay tuned for what’s next.

While I’m horrible at following the daily prompts, I swear the repair is in full swing over here! This sweatshirt, and about 40 other white hoodies & matching sweatpants found their way to me this fall. The mother of a young designer passed them along after there was a printing error on her daughter’s branded sweatsuits. The trickiest part was that the logos were cut out of the sweatpants and hoodies, leaving gaping holes at the chest and thigh. I was committed to keeping them out of the landfill, but what was I to do with the shear mass of suits?! I put a call out on IG and fellow menders, sewists, and creatives from across Philadelphia stepped up to the challenge. I distributed the items & folks are in the process of repairing and/or transforming these holey garments for a project I’ve named The Hole Story. As for my hoodie contribution, after a dip in my indigo vat, I got to stitching. My (look at me following today’s prompt) was my monstera, which has nearly died several times, but with some gentle nursing always comes back to life. Repair is a beautiful process and a poetic metaphor. Stay tuned for more updates about The Hole Story Project—a bunch of participants will be gathering next week to share our work and I can’t wait to see what comes of it.
