Today, on International Overdose Awareness Day, we pause to honor and remember the lives lost to overdose. Each of these lives mattered, and each story serves as a powerful reminder of the urgent need for change. We stand in solidarity with the families and friends who have lost loved ones, and with everyone who continues to struggle.

As we remember, let us also commit to action. It’s time to challenge outdated policies and harmful stigma that continue to undermine efforts toward effective harm reduction and recovery. We need legislative change that prioritizes health and safety, not punishment. Harm reduction saves lives—it is a compassionate, evidence-based approach that meets people where they are, offering support without judgment.

Every life is worth saving, and every person deserves the chance to recover with dignity and support.
